How long have you lived in Arlington?
25 years

What inspires you to work on environmental issues?
I agree with Al Gore, that climate change is the moral challenge of our generation. The Earth's resources are finite and fragile, so I want to help to develop a sustainable living pattern that ensures the future. I am very proud of Arlington's smart growth planning. And when it works we actually create a stronger sense of community.

Which of the Green Living Challenge actions that you've completed are you the most proud of?
I have a rain barrel! I use canvas sacks at the store and have my own "Arlington" water bottle! I did a home energy audit!  And I regularly choose to hop on my bike vs. hop in the car to do local errands or go to the gym or the office.

Which of the Green Living Challenge actions that you've completed was the hardest to do?  Why?
I have shifted to many non-toxic cleaning products, but it has been difficult finding a resource that rates or validates the products' effectiveness.  Is Palmolive ECO dishwasher detergent or Simple Green all-purpose cleaner the best one to use?

Please describe any Green Living Challenge actions or other environmental lifestyle changes that you're working on now.
Still procrastinating on registering with the group to reduce my junk mail, and to complete the major recommendations in my energy audit. Plus, I should bite the bullet and pay more for organic food more often!

What tips do you have for others who want to incorporate green ideas into their lifestyle?
Think of your kids and grandkids. The Challenge is a great way to get started.

Thanks for being a part of Arlington's Green Living Challenge. There's just over two weeks left to take the green living pledge and participate in  the Green Living Neighborhood Challenge. (Visit the neighborhood standings page to see how your civic association is doing.)

As an extra incentive, we are offering a free reusable travel coffee mug from Whole Foods Market if you take the pledge by the November 1 deadline. We'll e-mail you your certificate for a free mug after you take the pledge on our web site. (Offer while supplies last. Certificate must be redeemed at the Whole Foods Market in Clarendon.)
