Art Walk & Auction
Calling all artists! |
|
|
Lake City DIRT's annual Art Walk and Auction is a fun event for all. Artists from around the area take the identified form and create masterpieces using a variety of mediums and art methods. Previous shows featured trout and bears. This year, we are asking local artists to use paper mache, 3-dimensional deer forms. These are available now. Artwork is displayed throughout area businesses for the weeks prior to the event. A map identifies the various businesses.
These forms are available now because so many local artists have said that they have more time in the winter - we look forward to your creations!

Silver World Wins Awards
The Silver World Newspaper has won 13 awards this year from the Colorado Press Association. These annual awards are in a variety of Best Newspaper categories. Awards are based on circulation and the Silver World's category has approximately 50 small-town newspapers in it. Congratulations! We will cross our fingers that the Silver World wins an overall Award of Excellence at the February awards show.
Congrats especially to Grant Houston, Sandy Hines, Mary Stigall, Kara Molinek, Paul Olson and Russell Gammon who all won writing awards based on articles submitted. |

A New Year's resolution is something that goes in one year and out the other.
Anonymous
Despite the cynicism of resolutions, I still find myself excited every year - to crack open a brand-new calendar, to prioritize my to-do list with what's important and effective, to take stock of all that's been accomplished in the past year and to ponder the possibilities for this year.
The SWC Community has published a great list of "how to build community" - a portion is below:
Turn off your TV
Leave your house
Plant flowers
Use your library
Buy from local merchants
Share what you have
Support neighborhood schools
Fix it even if you didn't break it
Help carry something heavy
Hire young people for odd jobs
Listen before you react to anger
Seek to understand
Learn from new & uncomfortable angles
At DIRT, we look forward to another spectacular year of service to the Lake City community.
Cheers to 2009!
