Lake City DIRT received a National Trust for Historic Preservation grant through the Hart Family Fund for Small Towns to create an informational piece for potential & existing historic property owners in Lake City. Community partners include the Town, County, Historical Society, and local realty companies. Only one of five projects selected nationwide, this piece describes the emotional, financial, & historical benefits of preserving historic structures in LakeCity - a place that dates back to the 1870s. As well as providing information about caretaking techniques and where to go for further assistance and resources, "Buying History" proactively promotes ownership of historic structures and a better understanding of our historic preservation guidelines in the historic district.
Lake City has more than 90 contributing structures and a historic preservation ordinance in place. Thank you to the Hart Family Fund for Small Towns, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, Jill Seyfarth of Cultural Resources Planning, and Angela Hollingsworth of APH Creative Design for this project. Site Visit from DOLA and DCI (Department of Local Affairs and Downtown Colorado, Inc) - as a Main Street Community, Lake City is able to take advantage of a Resource Team Visit. Six consultants - Teri Cutright, Andre Natta, Scott Day, Katherine Correll, Don Van Wormer, and Rich Sales - reviewed aspects of economic revitalizations efforts, promotions, downtown design, and our organization. In town for several days, this group hosted focus group meetings and interviews with community residents and organizations. Written recommendations from the team will be provided and we look forward to sharing findings. This program is financially sponsored by DOLA. A special thank you to Kat Correll of DCI for all the preparation work needed!

There is new snow on the conifers of Lake City, the air is crisp, and the sky is bright blue. Whether it's the fading fall or the upcoming Thanksgiving celebration, I find myself unusually grateful this morning.
The spectacular beauty of the Lake City area, and the warmth and generousity of its residents and visitors, indeed make this a little slice of heaven. As happens every month when I sit down to look at what we are accomplishing as a community ... I am inspired and humbled to be a part of this work.
Respectfully,
Kristie Borchers Lake City DIRT
