Volunteer Spotlight
|
 |
Michelle Truly serves as the Organization Chair and Director for Lake City DIRT. She "rides herd" over volunteer recruitment, management, fund-raising and grantwriting, and overall operations (no small task!). Michelle is the kind of volunteer that nonprofits dream of - she churns out nearly-complete grant applications. DIRT has received several of these grants - including Anschutz Family Foundation and El Pomar funding.
Michelle led Lake City DIRT through a Strategic Visioning process last fall to identify short-term and long-term goals for the organization. She brings energy and brains to all endeavors!
Michelle and her husband Mike (and Wilbur and Miss B Havin - seen above) brought a home-based business (Truly Media) and a telecommuting position with Boeing to Lake City.
The Truly's have been instrumental in identifying challenges in our current telecommuting capabilities and outreach plans.
We are glad you are here!

The Wine & Music Festival is just around the corner. There are a variety of ways that special events can positively impact our community:
- as a promotional-opportunity
- as a way to directly increase sales of lodging, food, and retail during the weekend of the event.
Several shoulder-events have been planned to extend the experience for residents and visitors - Friday night winemaker's dinners at Luna's and Sportsman's BBQ and a champagne breakfast at Mean Jean's on Sunday morning (8-11 a.m.).
In the yearlong calendar of events in Lake City, there are several reasons for having special events - some are retail promotions (like the Missing Mistletoe Hunt), some are community-gathering events (like the Community-wide Volunteer Celebration), some are fund-raising events for specific organizations, and some events attract new visitors (like the Wine & Music Festival). "The purpose of a special event is not necessarily to generate sales on that particular date, but rather to attract people to a commercial district, raise its profile, and give visitors a positive impression so they will come back ..." says Luke VanBelleghem in the article How Special Events Benefit Local Businesses.
While the proceeds for this event benefit Prostate Cancer Awareness in our area, our businesses can economically benefit as well.
I - for one - will be there for the wine.
Cheers!
