February 8, 9, and 10 - Balloon Festival www.lakecity.com  Don't miss the Balloon Glow or the rides!

Hours contributed by DIRT volunteers for 2007 totaled 4,335 hours.  That's 11.8 hours every day of the year - building boardwalk, planting flowers, painting merry-go-rounds, writing grants to bring economic dollars to our region, planning and hosting promotion events, or serving wine (at the Festival!).

A wide array of volunteer opportunities are available with Lake City DIRT.  Winter projects (help beat back the winter blues) include the Downtown Design Plan, planning, strategizing, grant-writing, article writing, and office administration.  Spring projects (thank goodness the snow is melting) include downtown beautification projects.  Summer projects (yea - it's finally warm) include the Third Street Market, Art Walk and Auction, downtown gardens, and assisting with the Youth Corps.  Fall projects (is winter coming?) include the Wine and Music Festival and more.  We are working on a Virtual Volunteer program and look forward to your ideas.

The community of Lake City relies on volunteers to function.  We are planning an "In-Service" - a community-wide event to bring all our nonprofit and community organizations together, to provide a venue for recognition and celebration.  This event will coincide with National Volunteer Week, April 27 - May 3.  Stay tuned for more info!

Respectfully,

Kristine Borchers
