February 2010

Greetings,

February brings lots of activities and a few changes to The Grotto. This past month we said farewell to Fr. Denish as he returned to the Phillipines. Sunday, Feb. 21, will be Fr. Fred's last Mass at The Grotto, as he too will return. We thank them for their service here and look forward to welcoming Br. Vincent, who will arrive this coming week.

Please read on to learn about the variety of events which we hope will entice you to visit. See you soon!

And be sure to check out our website at www.thegrotto.org.

LENTEN THRESHOLD BIBLE SERIES

Join Fr. Ignatius Kissel, OSM, and Patricia Flynn, LCSW and Spiritual Director, in a Lenten Bible Study: People of the Passion.

Examine how suffering seems to bring out the best and worst in our human nature.  Some people are overcome with hopelessness that leads to despair; others are filled with courage that leads to heroism.  Still others exhibit a wide range of responses that reveal their character: trust, generosity, steadfastness, cowardice, greed, or pride.

The people of the passion in this study are the characters who participated in some dramatic way in the suffering and death of Jesus.  Well-known characters include Peter, Pilate, and Mary Magdalene; lesser known include Simon of Cyrene, the daughters of Jerusalem, and the women who anointed Jesus.  We will meet for six consecutive Thursdays from 3-4:30pm in the Grotto Auditorium, from February 18th through March 25th.

A donation of $10 is requested to cover the cost of materials.

Join Patricia Flynn, LCSW and Spiritual Director, and Fr. Ignatius Kissel, OSM, for a Lenten Retreat and desert experience on Saturday, March 13, 2010, from 9am-3pm in The Grotto Conference Center.

Take time to remove yourself from life's busyness, using tools to draw inward to the still silent place where we meet God.  Discover what fills the emptiness of your life, preventing a closer relationship with God.  Learn more about prayer, practicing centering prayer as a vehicle for bringing contemplative time into your hectic life. Prepare yourself for the upcoming Easter Triduum by letting God speak to your heart.

A fee of $45 includes lunch, a snack and free admission to The Grotto's Upper Level Gardens.  Pre-registration is required.  A discount of 20% is available for those registering by February 12.
