UI Welcomes Iraqi
Students
It may be only three weeks into the semester, but
the Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS) has already had a very
busy fall as international student enrollment at the UI is higher than ever. A
small number of those students come from Iraq...Scott King, director of OISS and
assistant dean of International Programs, traveled to Baghdad in 2009 to begin
sowing the seeds for what is now a successful initiative, and five Iraqi
students have enrolled at the UI so far because of it. Read more.

Study Abroad in Tanzania
The annual study abroad fair is just around the
corner, and with it comes new opportunities in international education for UI students.
The Office for Study Abroad (OfSA) recently received a grant to make a new semester-long
program in Tanzania, and it will be one of the first programs of its kind in the
nation.

Fulbrights make an Impact
UI alumni like Deanna Fei and Geoffrey Hilsabeck have benefited greatly from their international experiences thanks to
the support of Fulbright grants. As for Fulbright recipients outside the United States, The
University of Iowa is one of only eight U.S. universities chosen to host
incoming Fulbright fellows for a five-day orientation. Read more.
