What to Look For in the Coming Year

Hope your 2010 is off to a great start.  We have been busy here since the first of the year.  Here is just a sampling of what's new at Parallel Path:
  • Beta release of our new deep data reporting & analysis tool, InSight, for use by our clients to highlight data trends and key performance indicators.  We can use this to look across all campaigns (SEO / PPC) and platforms (Google / Yahoo / Bing, etc.), and even pull in email, banner, affiliate, local, tradeshow and just about any kind marketing data to give you a broad comprehensive analysis of the performance of all marketing activities.

  • Purchase of a specialized 3rd party state of the art Keyword Management System which will further increase our performance and capabilities for our clients.

  • Development of a Content Management practice allowing us to keep your site up to date with new offers, products, services, news etc.
  • Launch of two additional services; Call Tracking and Transient PPC. Call tracking helps you track the effectiveness of marketing campaigns that result in a phone call, rather than the completion of an online registration form. Transient PPC campaigns are those that are targeted to events. If you're going to exhibit at a trade show (or even want to market to those that are attending a tradeshow that you're not attending), transient PPC campaigns uniquely targeting that event can provide lift to your other show-related marketing investments.

Changes in Local Search in 2009

Searching for relevant local businesses
used to be performed by thumbing through a giant yellow phone book, guessing at which category a simple haircut might be listed under (beauty? barber? salon?), and then calling the first number that jumped out at you to make an appointment. Maybe you were drawn to the half-page ads, or you might have just gone alphabetically and visited "Aardvark Hairstyling".

These days, you are more likely to find a phone book in a Dumpster than you are to see one on a shelf in someone's house. People now forgo the Yellow Pages and, instead, power up their computer and perform a quick online search for what they need - "haircut boulder co." In November of 2009 alone, over 10 billion online searches were performed across Google, Yahoo, Bing, Ask, Internet Yellow Pages (IYPs), and the many other local listing sites.

Facebook Advertising

What's All the Fuss About Facebook?

2009 was a big year for Facebook. In May, comScore reported 70.2 million US unique visits for Facebook (up 97% year over year) passing Myspace.com for the first time. Later the same year, UK-based analytics firm Hitwise tweeted that on December 29th, Facebook had more unique visits than Google.com. This effectively made facebook.com the most visited site in the US for several consecutive days. While marketers are still debating social media best practices, no one can deny that Facebook is becoming a more important marketing medium every day.

How Do I Start Advertising on Facebook?

Of all of the ways you can choose to start advertising on Facebook, PPC is probably both the quickest and the easiest. To begin, you will need to decide whether you want your ads to link to your company web page or something on Facebook (like a Page, Application, Group, or Event). Much of this depends on your business goals (lead generation, sales, etc.), but more on that later. Next, you will need a compelling 110px X 80px image for your advertisement. Once you have uploaded the image, written the ad copy, and setup your account (with billing info, etc.) you can literally be up and running in as little as a few hours. The thing that takes the longest time is usually waiting for Facebook to approve your advertisement.
