SEM is Getting Harder
Tracy Earles, VP of Marketing

Search Engine Marketing is Not for the Amateur
Search marketing is much more difficult than it was five years ago. Why? And why should it matter to you? Can't a company run its own search marketing campaigns?

The main reason that search marketing is more difficult is that it is more competitive. Advertising dollars are fleeing traditional media, like TV or print, and moving into online media. Take a look at these advertising expenditure numbers from TNS Media Intelligence compared to Google financials:

Ensuring Optimization Of Your Place Page on Google
In the ever-changing landscape of local search, new features are being added to the various search engines constantly. One of the newest and most robust features available is Google's Place Pages. Google Place Pages are now appearing in Google Maps when a user clicks on "More Information" for a business appearing in Google's 10-pack. Google Place Pages are a benefit to business owners in that more information is now offered on the results pages, which are essentially landing pages for businesses. Google Place Pages include the data that our Aha!Local customers provide us when signing up for Aha!Local, including images, business information, hours and methods of payment.

Attracting New Followers to your Company's Facebook Page

You just set up a page for your business on Facebook and invited all your closest friends and family to join. You've spent hours posting clever content (articles, deals, etc.) that relate to your business for your fans to enjoy. So why is it that only your closest friends and family are fans? You built your Facebook "field of dreams"; why aren't more fans showing up?  You're may not be getting many new followers because you're probably not offering enough incentives. To grow your Facebook business page, you need to give prospective fans numerous opportunities and incentives to join up and then invite their friends to join.

In early August, Parallel Path attended its fifth Search Engines Strategies Conference (SES) in San Jose, California.  SES is one of the preeminent search engine marketing conferences and tends to draw all the big players in the space.  This year was no different, with frequent sightings of Google SEO guru Matt Cutts; landing page, usability expert and author Bryan Eisenberg; and of course Parallel Path's very own local search virtuoso Tracy Earles.  Among all the parties and elbow rubbing we also found time to learn some important upcoming trends in search we'd like to pass along.
