Offering
a unique brand of Harlem-style basketball featuring high-flying slam dunks,
dazzling ball-handling tricks and hilarious comedy routines, the Harlem Ambassadors are a team of talented male and female basketball
players that are drug-free, college-educated and positive in appearance. They are
committed to giving their audience quality family entertainment and serving as
positive role models for young people.
The

partnered with The Oakhurst Area Chamber
of Commerce with the proceeds of ticket sales funding local programs,
organizations and services.
"We are proud to provide quality
entertainment and lasting memories for audiences of all ages," said Dale Moss,
Harlem Ambassadors President. "It's rewarding to give back, especially when the
funds generated help build a house for Habitat for Humanity or buy computers

Christmas Eve Feast Offers Up Hope
|
The Outpouring A FREE Christmas Eve Feast offering hope to the Community of Oakhurst December 24th, 5:00-8:00 pm, at Oakhurst Community Center. ...For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in. Matthew 25:35 OUR GOAL? TO CREATE AN OUTPOURING OF LOVE, TO THE IMPOVERISHED, LONELY AND DISENFRANCHISED IN OUR COMMUNITY, BY SUPPLYING DINNER AND A LOVING PLACE TO BE ON CHRISTMAS EVE. WHY? BECAUSE HIS OVERWHELMING LOVE FOR US, CAUSES US TO HAVE OVERWHELMING LOVE FOR HIS LOVED ONES. This is how we know what love is... If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth. This then is how we know that we belong to the truth ... 1 John 3:16-19 WHAT BETTER WAY TO CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS, THAN BY PUTTING OUR LOVE WHERE OUR MOUTH IS, AND UNITING TO FEED AND LOVE, THOSE STRUGGLING IN OUR OWN COMMUNITY? This Christmas Eve we will do just that, by uniting our community to pay forward the Love we've received, not just tell people about It. THIS CHRISTMAS EVE, THE SMALL EFFORTS OF MANY, WILL RESULT IN AN OUTPOURING OF LOVE IN OAKHURST. If each of us simply reach into our own sphere of influence, our family, friends, co-workers, church, and ask them to share one inexpensive dish of food, we can easily feed a multitude of hungry, lonely, or emotionally defeated individuals in our community. What if that grew even further, and some of those people wanted to reach into their sphere of influence to do the same? Or, if some of those people also donated a small gift for an elderly person or child? Imagine how many people could be fed and loved by our simple efforts! One dish, one toy, one smile... It's that easy. Please join us... YOU CAN HELP BY: - ASKING 5 OF YOUR FRIENDS TO DONATE 1 DISH TO HELP YOU FEED 10 TO 12 PEOPLE IN DISTRESS.
Just follow the attached instructions for becoming a Team Captain. It's soooo easy. - OFFERING TO TAKE CHARGE OF SOMETHING IN THE PLANNING STAGES... WHAT IS YOUR GIFTING?
(Entertainment, decorating, publicity, gift-drive, set-up/tear down, service, host/hostess etc.) - BECOMING A VOLUNTEER THE DAY OF THE EVENT.
- DONATING NEEDED GOODS OR SERVICES.
- MONETARY DONATION TO COVER EXPENSE OF FACILITY RENTAL, PAPERGOODS, UTENSILS, DRINKS,
ETC. Donations may be made out to D.T.C. (Destiny Training Center), Attn: "Christmas Eve Outpouring" on the memo line. Send to: The Outpouring, Attn: Jami Fenton, P.O. Box 1304, Oakhurst CA 93644 |

Yosemite National Park Ranger Shelton Johnson Receives Freeman Tilden Award
|
Shelton Johnson performing his Buffalo Soldier Program
for Secretary of Interior Ken Salazar and NPS Director Jon Jarvis
Shelton Johnson, Interpretive Park Ranger at Yosemite National Park has been
selected as a recipient of the 2009 Freeman Tilden Award for excellence in
interpretation. Johnson received the award Thursday, November 19, at the
National Association of Interpretation conference in Hartford, Connecticut. This
is the highest award given by the National Park Service for excellence in
interpretation. Johnson was one of the seven finalists from regions throughout
the country competing for the national award.
Johnson was cited for his
extensive collaboration with Ken Burns during the filming of the landmark
documentary The National Parks: America's Best Idea. Ranger Johnson appeared in
the film extensively reflecting on his experiences as a National Park Ranger.
Additionally, he worked on a collaborative project telling the previously untold
stories of diverse peoples in national parks. These messages are reaching far
beyond Yosemite National Park and have facilitated lasting connections between
African Americans and their national parks.
"We are extremely proud of
Shelton and couldn't be happier that he has been recognized by receiving this
award. It is even more meaningful that this award was given by his peers.
Shelton's work here in Yosemite and on the Ken Burns film will reach millions
of people for generations to come," said Tom Medema, Acting Chief of
Interpretation and Education at Yosemite National Park.
Shelton Johnson
has worked for the National Park Service for over 20 years. Prior to working in
Yosemite National Park, Johnson worked in Yellowstone National Park, Great Basin
National Park, and the National Mall in Washington D.C.
Johnson was
selected by a panel of interpretive experts from around the country. As the
recipient of the 28th annual National Freeman Tilden Award, Johnson received a
sculpted portrait bust of Freeman Tilden and
$4,000.

"Public Rides From Fresno to Yosemite to Be Studied
|
Fresno County council looks at creating bus links to national parks.
Published online on Thursday, Nov. 26, 2009
By Russell Clemings / The Fresno Bee
It's been more than a decade since the old Fresno Air Terminal was rebranded Fresno Yosemite International Airport. The
idea was to beef up the airport's marketing cachet by trading on the
name of the nearby national park. But just try getting from one to the
other. "I've gotten a few phone calls over the years -- people
asking how you get from Amtrak up to Yosemite, how do you get from the
airport up to Yosemite," said John Downs, senior planner for the
Council of Fresno County Governments and planning division manager for
the city's FAX bus system. Now, the council is preparing to
select a consultant to study the market for that kind of transportation
service between Fresno and Yosemite to the north as well as Kings
Canyon and Sequoia national parks to the east. Downs said the
$50,000 study also could look at connecting the parks with other
venues, such as major hotels and casinos along the route.
BEE FILE Fresno Air
Terminal was renamed Fresno Yosemite International Airport in a nod to
the national park. Now, the Council of Fresno County Governments is
considering a transportation service between Fresno and nearby national
parks.
