Congressman George Radanovich meets with small group of Chamber members/Community leaders to discuss federal, state, and local issues
The Congressman took time just after the Memorial Weekend to visit Oakhurst and meet with a small group of businessmen (and women) about the current political climate. Among the many items discussed, was the recession, economic indicators for recovery, inflation predictions, the impact on local business, and what we should expect from the massive spending and the American Recovery Act going on in Washington right now. The current situations on Iran, Iraq, and North Korea were also discussed.
Congressman Radanovich was very open and candid during our conversation and he shared with us some of the issues the Republican party is also struggling with.
But for me, one of the most important items we discussed came at the end of the meeting, when he asked if there were more local issues we wanted to address, and I shared with him our on going battle to finish getting sidewalks on highway 41. In a tragic accident a couple of weeks ago, a woman on a motorized wheel chair, lost her life. It is my belief that if we would provide safe pedestrian and bicycle access along both Highway 41 and 49, accidents like this one could be avoided. Even though this is a state issue (Cal Trans) Congressman Radanovich promised he would look into what it will take to resolve this decade old issue. In my opinion; Seniors, Disabled Americans, Children, Visitors, and Residents alike should all be able to walk safely from one place of business to another. It is my sincere hope that with the Congressman's help we can resolve this.
My thanks to Congressman Radanovich, his staff, the businessmen that attended the meeting, and David Linn, who is our Representative to Congressman Radanovich. |

Economic Recovery-Reinvestment Act |
The Economic Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 significantly increased the types of businesses that can utilize low-interest rate, tax-exempt Industrial development Bond (IDB) financing. In addition to expanding the rules for financing manufacturing facilities, the Act permits the financing of projects that create intangible and intellectual property. Subject to certain limits, the Act allows for the financing of facilities and equipment used to develop "any patent, copyright, formula, process, design, knowhow, format, or similar item." What Tips Can You Offer So A Small Business Owner Can Sell Their Products More Effectively? |
Many small business owners are so passionate about their product or service that they tend to OVERSELL. They know everything about their business and they want to share it. You really just need to define the customer's needs, assist them in determining how you can meet those needs and guide them through making a decision. Be aware of when they're saying yes. An overzealous business owner will ignore buying signals because they don't feel the prospect has all the information. They may have enough to make a decision. Just listen and pay attention. Here a few things to remember: More>>> |

U.S. Senate Passes Travel Promotion Act of 2009 |
Washington, D.C. - The United States Senate Committee on Commerce, Science & Transportation today approved S. 1023, the "Travel Promotion Act of 2009." The bipartisan legislation, led by Senators Byron Dorgan (D-ND) and John Ensign (R-NV) creates a public-private partnership with a budget of up to $200 million annually to attract international travelers to the United States by better communicating America's security policies and competing for visitors. According to an analysis by Oxford Economics, the program could drive $4 billion annually in new spending by international travelers to the United States. More>>> |

Memorial Day Veteran's Breakfast In Oakhurst |
Forty Oakhurst area veterans commemorated Memorial Day 2009 with a breakfast at the Ol' Kettle restaurant. In an event emceed by Lieutenant Colonel Bob Small (CASMR Ret), Supervisor Tom Wheeler and Mary Alice Kaloostian, district director for Sen. Dave Cogdill, each spoke about the sacrifices made by veterans. Congressman George Radanovich provided a statement, read by local Amvets representative Dave Wolin, also honoring our veteran's sacrifices. Many attendees, World War II, Korea and Viet Nam veterans told stories of their service experiences, some understated, some emotionally charged. A large Fresno Madera Amvets contingent attended and brought along the latest Veteran's Administration information, including news that a satellite clinic will be opening in Oakhurst. Souvenir handouts included pens from Sierra Telephone, fans and bookmarks from Sen. Cogdill, Madera County lapel pins and Amvets magnets. | |
