Feature Pose:
Standing Deep Breathing
Pranayama

Pranayama comes from the following words: Praya "life force" and Yama "control"...Pranayama breathing is the science of "breath control". It develops concentration, reduces stress, and relaxes the body. During our respiration process, we inhale oxygen, which travels through the body systems and energizes the different parts. We exhale carbon dioxide, releasing toxis waste from the body. Heart disease, sleep disorders, and fatigue are common effects of oxygen starvation.

April 2010

April showers bring May flowers. April is a month for transitions. It is a time when we transition seasons, students are nearing the end of a school year, and we can shake off the coat of Winter. We are fortunate enough to live in Orange County, a place where Spring can be enjoyed to the absolute fullest. We can get outside and take advantage of what this climate has to offer. Grab a friend and go for a hike, get to the beach, and get to the studio. After the New Years resolution push begins to fade, now is the best time to pump up your yoga practice in preparation for an active and healthy summer. We have seen a lot of yogis bring friends along to try out Hot Yoga lately. If you know someone in your life who would benefit from Hot Yoga but may be on the fence about coming to their first class, bring them along! Partner up! Practice next to them towards the back of the classroom instead of your usual front or mid-row spot. Experiencing Hot Yoga for the first time with a friend is truly a gift and a great experience...and a great way to kick of the Spring season.

"If we had no Winter, the Spring would not be so pleasant; if we did not sometimes taste adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome." --Anne Bradstreet

"Yoga teaches us to cure what need not be endured and endure what cannot be cured." --B.K.S. Iyengar

Student of the Month

Our February Student of the Month is Veronica Martin Del Campo!

Veronica is originally from Fountain Valley!

  • When did you start practicing hot yoga?
"I believe I have been practicing for about two years now. I only wish I had discovered Hot Yoga sooner. I think I've gotten to a point where I plan my days around yoga...I love it that much!"
  • How often do you practice?
"I try and practice at least four times a week..sometimes I just can't get enough and  I love the feeling you get after you're done --Completely renewed and refreshed. Can't get that feeling anywhere else."
  • Why do you practice? What are the primary benefits you experience?
"Originally I was looking for a new workout, a new challenge. Not only did I find that in Hot Yoga but it also gave me a deeper understanding of my own strengths and weaknesses, physically and mentally. It's like a fountain of youth for your body --but all natural. The more you practice the better you feel inside and out and eventually other people start seeing it too. Everyday is different and you will never stop improving or learning about yourself in this practice. ...For years I was a hardcore gym-goer and worked as a personal trainer for several years. I was burned out and needed a change. Hot Yoga has aided me in healing previous injuries when nothing else worked. I was amazed! I have gained flexibility and strength without needing the gym. It's also the place where I come to de-stress and recharge myself for the day."
  • How has your hot yoga practice impacted or changed your life?
"I loved Hot Yoga from day one but now I believe there was a reason I began practicing two years ago. Three month ago I had an unexpected major surgery. During my bed-ridden recovery phase ALL I could think about was getting back to my yoga practice. As soon as I was able to drive, I came back to the studio and began my journey back to health. Everyday was a different challenge. When your ability to move is almost taken away, you welcome the challenge and rise above it. Yoga helped me heal in ways I can't explain physically, mentally, and emotionally. Yoga helped heal the scar tissue and I regained the use of my right arm almost back to normal within 3 months. This practice has been my medicine to recovery.... I have also met some wonderful people and gained new friends. All of the instructors are wonderful! I want to thank Jason and all of the teachers for their encouragement and support they have given me during my practice. For an hour and a half they guide us through a journey of renewal that we just can't get anywhere else. I have never taken anything for granted but after my experience I make sure to enjoy every minute of the 90 minutes in Yoga."
  • What's your favorite posture?
"All of them are my favorite now! I really like the balancing series because it challenges me and helps me with my balance and flexibility. Believe it or not I love Camel. Least favorite used to be Triangle and Head to Knee but now I appreciate each posture. After my surgery I re-focused and realized it's not how far or how deep I can get into the postures but the journey it takes to get there. We only have one body, which can never be replaced. Treat it with love, and it will take you places"
