Instructor Anniversary

It's Christelle's 1st anniversary teaching hot yoga!

How long have you been practicing hot yoga?
"I started practicing hot yoga at a studio in Costa Mesa almost 7 years ago! But it wasn't until I started teaching at Huntington Beach Hot Yoga that my practice became regular. I was a swim instructor before I started teaching hot yoga and that's where I discovered how important teaching is to me."

Why do you love hot yoga?
"Practicing and teaching at Huntington Beach Hot Yoga has really changed my life for the better. This experience has given me the will and confidence to grow as a person. I feel that I am more balanced with yoga in my life, whether I am teaching or taking class. I also like being able to give back to others through teaching."

What is something unique about you, that is unrelated to your yoga practice?
"I grew up in the French Alps but I have been living in Huntington Beach for almost 10 years now. I consider myself both French and American, and I try to keep the best of both cultures!"

October 2009

Dear yoga practitioners,

As most of you know, I installed a specially engineered, environmental heating control system back in February. The state of the art system is designed to remove excess humidity when too humid or to add moisture when too dry. The equipment monitors the air and pulls in fresh air when oxygen levels dip below normal. Unfortunately, the end result has not delivered what was promised. Next week, we are making a major change by installing a duct sock which will change the distribution of heat, therefore properly regulating the air. It has been a very challenging process to correct and I want you to know that I have not given up on correcting the system. I have had to learn to be diligent and stay patient at the same time. My goal is always to offer you the best possible facility. I love hot yoga and I want you to have nothing but positive experiences at Huntington Beach Hot Yoga. Thank you for your understanding, soon the system will deliver a fresh and energizing experience, regardless of class size.

Namaste,
Jason

Fall Greetings!

There are a number of ways your yoga practice can extend beyond the mat and outside of the studio. A consistent yoga practice not only requires dedication and balance, but can also add balance to everyday life. The 90 minutes spent in class without emails or phone calls is a restorative break from daily toils and a well-deserved break without interruption. Treating this time as a way to give back to yourself will begin to translate into other aspects of your life as well. Have you ever noticed how great you feel during an evening class after eating right throughout the day? Or how good a morning class feels after a good night's sleep? These positive choices not only enhance your every day life, they enhance your yoga practice as well.

We often overlook the little things in life that are so crucial to personal balance: rest, laughter, good company... Your yoga practice is just one of many endeavors that adds balance to your life in so many ways.  Setting aside time for yoga every week can be a balancing act itself, but the mental and physical rewards are indispensable. Be good to yourself. See you at the studio.

Namaste,
Jason, Stephanie, Lourdes, Jordan M., Jordan S., Erica, Harmony, Laura B., Lisa, Christelle, Sadie, Megan, Vivian, and Barbara

Jeff

Our September Student of the Month is Jeff Penfield!

Jeff is originally from Huntington Beach!

  • When did you start practicing hot yoga?
"About 3 years ago. Maybe a little more. I first heard about hot yoga from a friend of my daughters. I had quit running due to the wear and tear on my body and was finding it hard to surf enough to stay in good shape. I was looking for a cardio workout that would fit into my schedule. It took me awhile to discover Huntington Beach Hot Yoga and my first class was a bit of a shock, but I decided to make this a priority."
  • How often do you practice?
"I usually get here 3 to 4 times a week. For me it takes a little hard work and dedication to show up consistently but the way I see it, no matter what happens, any day I get into my hot yoga class is a perfectly successful day."
  • Why do you practice? What are the primary benefits you experience?
"The benefits of practicing hot yoga translate into all areas of my life. Yoga maintains and improves my attitude and quality life. I have found that I sleep better at night, and have more energy during the day. Before hot yoga I had chronic back pain, constant pain from an old broken ankle, and frequent stiff necks. A good night's sleep was getting rare. Once I started hot yoga my back gradually got better, I regained mobility in my ankle, and stiff necks are all but gone. I guess my favorite benefit of yoga is waking up with the great energy that only comes from getting a good night's sleep."
  • How has your hot yoga practice impacted or changed your life?
"Yoga has given me a more positive outlook on growing older. With yoga, I am still able to do all the physical things I enjoy doing. I used to be afraid of getting old, no longer being able to get around and do the physical things I like to do. Now I look forward to being the kind of Grandfather who can pick up my grandkids, pitch batting practice, and go camping."
  • What's your favorite posture?
"I really don't have a favorite posture. What I find amazing is how the combination of all the postures seems to work and benefit every single muscle and joint in my body."
