Our Continued Growth

Jim and Bob
We are pleased to share some exciting news with our customers regarding our recent expansion. On June 11, we closed our first acquisition of Weed & Feed Professional Services, Inc.

Weed & Feed Professional Services is owned and operated by Robert Mann of Sandwich, Massachusetts. The existing operations will come under the name of Lawn Dawg over the next 12 months. Once finalized, we plan to relocate our Bridgewater branch to Plymouth, Massachusetts, for a more central location in this growing market. The new location will allow us to be more efficient, and service in this region will remain uninterrupted throughout the transition process. Lawn Dawg will continue to focus efforts on residential services, while Weed & Feed will continue our commercial services division and expanding our commercial customer base. Bob will be joining the Lawn Dawg team as Branch Manager at the Plymouth location.

Here is what Jim Campanella has to say about the merger, "I am very excited about partnering with an industry leader like Bob Mann. His knowledge, leadership and experience are valuable assets that help make Lawn Dawg a better company today. I look forward to working with Bob to improve our commercial presence, enhance our training programs, and continue our industry involvement at both the local and national levels."

White Grubs

GrubsWhite grubs can vary in size from a few millimeters in length to close to 1 inch. Regardless of length, the shape and color are all similar. They have brown heads with large jaws, and plump, cream-colored bodies. The back part of their abdomen is often dark from ingesting roots and solid. They tend to take a C-shaped position, so if if you see a mass of fat, white insects aligned like that letter, you've spotted grubs. White grubs are the larval stage of any flying beetle. They become active after the beetle has laid eggs and the eggs hatch. Beetles lay their eggs in the early summer, the eggs hatch and the grubs feed in late summer and fall. The grub overwinters under the turf surface and then pupates into a beetle the following spring.

The grub feeds on the turf grass roots. It chews the roots off close to the surface, preventing the plant from obtaining water and food. When the conditions are hot and dry, the damage from grubs is more apparent as the plant cannot recover. Damage during wet periods or from small infestations on healthy lawn can sometimes go unnoticed.

Early stages of grub damage appear mainly in the late summer or early fall when the grass plant begins to wilt. Watering does not make the stress go away, and because the grubs have decimated the roots, damaged turf can be picked or even rolled up with little effort. The turf will also feel spongy underneath. In addition to doing their own damage, grubs are an excellent food source for several animals, and these predators will harm the lawn as well while they are feeding.

The best method for controlling grubs is to apply a preventative product during the summer before grubs begin feeding. Contact your Lawn Dawg specialist for more information to insure your lawn does not become a grub haven this summer season.
