From The President, Jim Campanella
Fall is the very best growing time of the year for lawns. Warm days, cool nights and occasional rain create the perfect growing season for grass. We haven't had adequate rainfall recently but as soon as we get some your lawn should look very good as we progress into fall. The color should be a vibrant green, growth rate should be robust and weed pressure should be minimal. If any of these are not the case with your lawn, please contact your local office.
We continue to strive every day to improve the service that we provide. Our lawn specialists, management team and office staff are committed to our Customer Service Initiative (CSI). We've given back this year with many drawings and giveaways and even launched our customer rewards program by offering a discounted rate at a Florida condo (click here for more information https://www.lawndawg.com/index.php/pages/p/special_offers).
We hope we've met your expectation this year and ask you to complete our online report card (click on the link) https://www.lawndawg.com/index.php/pages/p/report_card and tell us how we are doing. Just for doing that you will be automatically entered in a drawing for a weekend stay at Stowe Mountain Resort!
In this newsletter you will read about recent drawing winners, fall maintenance tips for you lawn, an outstanding example of customer service and a feature on one of our best Lawn Specialists, Dale MacEwen. There is also a special discount on our fall winterizer treatment exclusively for customers on our newsletter list! We hope you enjoy this issue and have a great fall.

Is The Grass Growing?
While we experienced lots of rain this past early Summer, August has been very dry. Fall tends to be the best growing season for the lawn but don't be surprised if your lawn still shows signs of drought. If you can, be sure to keep watering until Mother Nature can do it for us.

Fall Lawn Tips
Mowing:
Should I reduce my mowing height in the Fall?
As the growth of your lawn slows, you should gradually reduce your mowing height 1 setting per week. Your final cut should be no lower than 1 ½ - 2 inches.
Watering:
Do I still need to water with cool night temperatures?
Lawns need water regularly regardless of the temperature. Cool temperatures do allow the lawn to look great while using less water. Be sure your lawn is getting 1" of water per week. Usually natural rainfall is sufficient.
Leaves:
How will it affect my lawn treatments?
Our pelletized fall fertilizer can be applied over a leaf cover up to 3 inches! The tiny pellets filter through the leaves and into the soil. They will not stick to the leaves. It is important that you remove leaves regularly during the fall and do not mulch them into the lawn. Leaves are full of tannic acid which is not good for your lawn. pH:
How does soil pH affect my lawn?
A balanced pH is essential for your lawn to look its very best. A low pH means the soil is acidic (soils in the northeast are naturally acidic). Acidic soil interferes with the lawn's ability to take in and use the nutrients we apply. Acidic soil also promotes weed growth and thatch build up. Have your lawn pH tested by your Lawn Dawg specialist. A corrective application of limestone can still be applied this fall.
Fall Fertilizer Treatments:
How important are they?
The fall fertilizer treatment is probably the most important application of the year. Fall is the best growing time of the year for cool season grasses. A heavy fall fertilizer will maximize the growing benefits by providing vibrant color and an overall thickening of your lawn. Now is a great time to aerate and overseed.
What about a Winterizer?
A late fall winterizer, high in Potassium, will help protect the lawn against winter injury while promoting an early spring green up. This product can be combined with the fall treatment or as a separate application.

Finding the Dawg:
A little story involving our very own, Adam Jette of Litchfield NH.
Good Morning-
I want to tell you about my experience with Lawn Dawg this morning. It starts with a hectic day and too little time with too much to accomplish. I had finished beekeeping and realized the fence door was unlocked. I knew I was short an old Redbone Coonhound, Ella, who is sneaky and takes advantage of any opportunity to wander.
As I headed out to find her, I passed Adam Jette working at the Van Allen's house in Greenland. I asked if he had seen her, and he hadn't. I continued my search unsuccessfully.
When I got home I had two messages - one from Adam saying he had Ella and one from my mother saying Adam had called her to say he had Ella. (Ella has a name and phone number tag.)
So kudos to Lawn Dawg for hiring decent and conscientious people who are more than vendors providing a service in a neighborhood. I'm impressed that Adam (who doesn't live in the neighborhood - or know me) listened to my description of my dog, reacted when he saw her and then called both numbers to get Ella home. (If you have a dog you know how important it is to get them home and safe.)
You're fortunate to have Adam as an employee if he treats non-customers this way I can only imagine the effort and care he takes for customers of Lawn Dawg. His efforts today are clearly above and beyond what I anticipated. What a great representative of your company as well! I'm sure you're aware when people have a good experience with a business they tell others, this is my experience with Lawn Dawg and I will tell others.
Please feel free to pass this along to Adam.
Thank you-
Sara MacCorkle, NH |
