Convention 2012
Quick Convention Summary By The Rev. Steve Pankey
On the whole, Convention went well. The opening Eucharist was fabulous, the gala was a lot of fun, and the business session Saturday had enough debate to keep things lively. In the end the Convention voted to - approve a change in the Canons regarding delegates from measuring "Confirmed Communicants" to "communicants in good standing."
- We approved a Resolution supporting Beckwith.
- We approved, unanimously, a Resolution supporting our brothers and sisters in Sudan.
- We approved, after much debate, a Resolution condemning capital punishment.
- And we approved, after even more debate and against the suggestion of the resolutions committee, a resolution from Bishop Duncan calling on General Convention to take seriously the work of structural reform.
- We approved a $1.2m budget, but struck down an amendment calling to raise the communications director position from $20k to $40k.
Convention photos will be up soon. An e-postcard will go out as soon as the galleries are loaded and organized. Thanks!

After being the Editor of The Coastline since November 2006, I am leaving the position February 29th, 2012.
I have loved serving all of you in this diocese more than any other work I've ever done, other than raising my three wonderful children. I am broken hearted to leave it, but as I wrote in my Letter of Resignation to Bishop Duncan,
Bishop, I have loved, loved, LOVED this job but the diocesan leadership continues to undervalue or at best, overlook the value of the communications position. My dedication in giving the job practically a full time effort in spite of the part time pay with no benefits or pension has prevented me from pursuing other opportunities where the compensation package is reflective of the work I do.
Regretfully, February 29th will be my last day in the communications position. The Bishop and I have spoken, emailed, and texted (Yes! The Bishop can text!) several times since I turned in my resignation early Monday morning following Convention. We have discussed alternate plans and programs and how we can utilize others on the commission, at least for a time.
I plan on pursuing my photography in the wedding and special events industry, and may widen my work in the church at some point. How or where this may take me, of course, remains to be seen, but I will stay in touch.
The Diocesan staff is giving me a sweet farewell luncheon near the end of the month and I am looking forward once more to Jeri's wonderful cooking! Peace to you all. I've truly loved, Loved, LOVED serving you. You may continue to email me at my coastline email address until February 29th. After that date, you are welcome to email me at my personal email address: cindy.mccrory@gmail.com Go in peace to love and serve the Lord. Thanks be to God.
