L-R Deacon John Brewer and Fr. Anthony MacWhinnie
Navarre, FL - Parishioners of St. Augustine of Canterbury Episcopal Church in Navarre welcomed a new vocational deacon to their congregation on Sunday, August 7, 2011. Deacon John Brewer and his wife, Toni were introduced by Father Anthony MacWhinnie, II during both the 8 and 10:30 am Holy Eucharist services. Parishioners had a further chance to meet & greet their new deacon during the monthly potluck luncheon held in the fellowship hall after the service.
Deacon Brewer was ordained to the Holy Order of the Vocational Diaconate in February, 2011 and is excited about serving with and among the people of Navarre. In the Anglican tradition, those called to seek ordination into the Vocational Diaconate are ordained and commissioned to "represent Christ and His Church; particularly as a servant to those in need; and to assist bishops and priests in the proclamation of the Gospel and the administration of the sacraments," according to the Book of Common Prayer of The Episcopal Church.
The Brewers reside in Milton, Florida.

By Vanessa Riutta St. Christopher's, Pensacola
Every three years, preceding General Convention, The Episcopal Church hosts a youth event called EYE (Episcopal Youth Event). This past June two youth and two adults, including myself, from the Central Gulf Coast attended this event at Bethel University in Minnesota. Never before had I been part of as large a gathering of youth, bishops and clergy, adults, and youth ministers. Over eleven hundred people from all over the Episcopal Church gathered for four days to worship, celebrate Christ, and fellowship with one another. Our youth from the Central Gulf Coast met other youth from all around world and as adults, Jane and I made some wonderful connections with other youth ministers and clergy. I cannot begin to express how truly astonishing EYE 2011 was and how excited our diocese should be to be involved in EYE 2014. Thank you to all for your continued support of youth!

Submitted by Mark Roberts, Epiphany Development The Diocese of the Central Gulf Coast is asking for at least three churches, ideally five, within the Diocese to participate and beta test the Episcomall.com web site. The site is a place for parishioners to sell items (as in a garage sale or art/collections sale) online with proceeds going to their parish and a percentage to the diocese. A small group of 3-5 volunteers can manage your Parish web site and sell items to raise money. Only one person with some computer experience is required. Who and what is required? Parish Episcomall Administrators These volunteers will update product inventory and pictures, oversee sales and shipping and work directly with the Diocese to complete administrative reports. Parish Photographers Take digital photographs of items for sale. Donors Donate items to their Parish by bringing the items to church for processing or process their donations online. Buyers Purchase donated items at a reasonable price. Episcomall is more like amazon.com than ebay. The Diocese will mail out checks to each Parish once a month. The Diocese keeps 20% of revenues. The Parishes can see their sales reports online. Episco-Mall is an additional and new method to have a fund-raiser.... it is an ongoing operation that uses little sweat equity when compared to the traditional annual garage sales/thrift shop sales/yard-sales. The first three Parishes will be accepted although ideally we'd love to have five parishes participate. If your Parish would like to participate, email admin@episcomall.com with your request. Thank you! EFM: EDUCATION FOR MINISTRY
