WELCOME PLANNED AT PENSACOLA AIRPORT FOR PARTICIPANTS IN  MEDICAL AND CONSTRUCTION MISSION TO HAITI

Participants from St. Christopher's Episcopal Church will return from amission trip to Le Pretre, Haiti on Friday June 10 at 10:30 p.m.  The groupwill arrive on American Airlines from Miami. A large delegation from St.Christopher's plan to welcome their arrival at the Pensacola airport.

THE MARKET AT ST. MONICA'S IN COMPETITION FOR ONE OF AMERICA'S FAVORITE FARMER'S MARKET

CANTONMENT, FL - The Market at Saint Monica's is one of the contestants in the 2011 America's Favorite Farmers Markets contest hosted each year by American Farmland Trust. At noon on June 1, American Farmland Trust (AFT) openED the voting at www.farmland.org/vote to select "America's Favorite Farmers Markets."

CHRISTIAN-JEWISH DIALOGUE FOUNDER PAUL FILBEN DIES

MOBILE, AL - Paul Filben, co-founder of Mobile Christian-Jewish Dialogue, died May 28, 2011, in his home in Mobile. He was 81. In 1974, Paul and his wife Mary, who died last year, began the work for which they are best known and will long be remembered in Mobile and beyond. Today, 37 years later, the Mobile Christian-Jewish Dialogue is recognized as the oldest, continuous lay-led Christian-Jewish Dialogue in the United States. Begun in Mobile for Roman Catholics and Jews, it was soon opened to all Christians. Bishop George Murray quickly joined the effort; Bishop Duvall and Bishop Duncan have continued support by the Episcopal diocese and encouraged participation by Episcopalians.

 NEW REPORT ABOUT OUR DISASTER RELIEF TRAILER

NORTH ALABAMA - The Central Coast Emergency Response Unit is doing wonderful work in the Diocese of Alabama. "John Briscione was real God-send to us," remarked Father Ray Waldon. Fr. Waldon is still resident in the Gulf Coast , but licensed to St. Peters in Talladega, Alabama. Fr. Waldon stated that John Briscione of Holy Cross who currently manages the trailer put new tires on the unit and made it immediately available after conferring with Bishop Duncan.

BISHOP AND STAFF ATTEND FISH FRY AT ST. PETER'S, BON SECOUR

BON SECOUR, AL - The Bishop and some members of his staff met at St. Peter's in Bon Secour for the second fish fry of the season on Thursday, June 2, 2011. St. Peter's "Famous Fish Fry" has been held for over 50 years and is a primary source of funding for its ministries.

LITURGY OF RITE 13 HELD AT ST. JAMES, FAIRHOPE

FAIRHOPE, AL - A Celebration of Manhood and Womanhood, a Liturgy of Rite 13, was held Sunday, May 15 at St. James Episcopal Church in Fairhope for eight young men and women.   In preparation for this liturgy, the young people attended a year of weekly sessions and participated in an overnight retreat.

STAFF SURPRISES BISHOP DUNCAN WITH ANNIVERSARY LUNCHEON

PENSACOLA, FL - Bishop Duncan was surprised by his staff on Friday, May 13 with a 10th Anniversary luncheon at the Diocesan Office.  Bishop Duncan was consecrated in Pensacola, Florida on May 12, 2011 and will be taking a four month sabbatical this Fall.

ST. JAMES, PORT ST. JOE, HOSTS QUARTERLY COMMUNITY DINNER

PORT ST. JOE, FL - St. James' Episcopal Church in Port St. Joe, Florida hosted the Quarterly Community Dinner on Friday, May 13, 2011.   These dinners are open to the community specifically to sponsor ecumenism. The event raised approximately $700.00 and are earmarked for mission and ministry in Gulf County, Florida.

BISHOP DUNCAN AND WIFE KATHY HOST DINNER FOR 2012 GENERAL CONVENTION DELEGATES, ALTERNATES

PENSACOLA, FL - Bishop Philip Duncan and wife, Kathy, hosted a dinner for the 2012 General Convention delegates and alternates on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 in their home in Gulf Breeze, FL.  Diocesan Administrator, Vince Curry, gave an overview of how General Convention works, responsibilities of diocesan delegates, and tips on making the experience a memorable time. More 

 

 

VINCE CURRY HONORED AT ANNIVERSARY LUNCHEON

PENSACOLA, FL -  Vince Curry was honored on May 4, 2011 at a luncheon given in his honor to celebrate his 30th Anniversary as Diocesan Administrator for the Episcopal Diocese of the Central Gulf Coast. Friends and family gathered at the diocesan office to visit and recall memories.

ST. PAUL'S THRIFT SHOP ANNUAL LUNCHEON HELD IN DAPHNE

DAPHNE, AL - The volunteers and staff of St. Paul's Thrift Shop celebrated their success at their annual luncheon by sharing their 2010 profits with agencies from Baldwin and Mobile counties on Saturday, April 30, 2011. The agencies honored are some of the organizations the Thrift Shop partners with for the betterment of the community by helping the needy in Baldwin County, as well as Wilmer Hall Children's Home, an agency of the diocese.

OIL SPILL INFO AND VOLUNTEER UPDATES

Commission on the Environment and Integrity of Creation

 

The Gulf Coast Ecosystem Restoration Task Force was created by President Obama through an Executive Order on October 5, 2010, in order to develop a strategy for long term recovery of the Gulf Coast ecosystem following the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill.  The Gulf Coast Ecosystem Restoration Task Force is holding a series of public meetings to hear input from local and community members about restoration strategies.

BROTHERHOOD OF ST. ANDREW HOLDING ANNUAL ASSEMBLY AT BECKWITH ON JUNE 11TH

The Annual Assembly for the Brotherhood of St. Andrew will be held at the Beckwith Conference Center in Fairhope on Saturday June 11th,  from  8:45 AM through lunch at 12:00 PM. 

 

Brotherhood Chapters from Holy Cross, Christ Church, Holy Trinity, St. James Fairhope and St. Paul's, Daphne will provide reports to the Assembly on their activities in the prior year and plans for 2011.  In addition there are potentially several new Chapters in the works.  The Celebrant will be the Rt. Rev. Philip M. Duncan. 

 

We invite all men to attend the meeting and hope that some parishes may consider establishing a Brotherhood of Saint Andrew Chapter in 2011.

 

 

ST. AUGUSTINE, NAVARRE OFFERING "FRIENDS, ARTISANS AND FISH FRY" ON JUNE 11

St. Augustine of Canterbury Episcopal Church invites the entire community of Navarre and parishioners across the diocese to St. Augustine's First Annual Friends, Artisans and Fish Fry on June 11 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The day will include music, shopping and tours of the church.

 

"This is a fund raiser, sure," said Fr. Anthony MacWhinnie II, rector of the parish. "But more importantly it's a friend raiser. We want to have some food, fun and music with all our neighbors, and let the community get to know us better."

 

Besides a wonderful fresh fried mullet lunch with sides for Adults $7.00/Children (Under 12) $4.00, visitors will be able to buy items from multiple vendors. Fr. Anthony's band will play and the NW Florida Blood Bank will be available for donations.

ST. ANDREWS, PANAMA CITY, PLANS JUNE EVENTS

Taizé Service

On June 12, at 5:30 p.m., St. Andrew's Episcopal Church will celebrate Pentecost and the close of the Easter season with a Taizé service. A Taizé service consists of repetitive, easy to sing songs that call one to silence and meditation. It is a visually gorgeous service that fosters a spirit of kindness, simplicity and reconciliation. A wine and cheese reception will follow in Byrne Hall.


Paddle and Pray

 On June 29 at 5:00 p.m. parishioners from St. Andrew's, Panama City, plan to kayak or canoe from Lake Caroline Park on West Beach Drive to the Buccaneer Restaurant. An Evening Prayer Service will follow on the shore of the beautiful beach behind the Buccaneer. The evening will conclude with a Dutch-treat dinner. Anyone in the community with a kayak or canoe is invited to participate.

JUNE 18   REDEEMER'S ST. FRANCIS GUILD OFFERING NEW CLASS ON TREATING PET EMERGENCIES 

 

If an emergency medical situation arose, would you know how to save your pet's life? The St. Francis Guild is sponsoring a "Pet CPR & Emergency Measures Class" on Saturday, June 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parish house. The course will be taught by Barbara Robinson, LVT of the Animal ER of Mobile. The course will include informative lecture and slide presentations followed by hands-on experience in basic CPR for dogs and cats as well as practice in techniques to help stabilize the animal until it can be taken to a vet. The Diocesan Commission on Prison Ministry has developed a Cycle of Prayer for prisons, prisoners, staff, and families of prisoners and staff, encouraging prayers for various institutions in the Diocese.

Weekly Webinar Series on Domestic Violence continues weekly through June 15, 2011

"Growing Safe and Healthy Congregations and Families in the Church" is a webinar series designed to increase the capacity to effectively respond to and prevent domestic and sexual violence and abuse in the life of our churches and communities. Each webinar will address a different topic from a theological perspective as well as provide best practices and resources. Interaction with the presenters will be possible. This series will educate, equip and inspire both clergy and laity to join the movement to end sexual and domestic violence and abuse. Offered by Justice and Witness Ministries of the United Church of Christ and the Faith- Trust Institute.   Although some seminars have already aired, there is still time to participate. Ecumenical participation is welcome.

Sewanee Church Music Conference 

The 61st Sewanee Church Music Conference will be held July 11-17, 2011 at The University of the South and the DuBose Conference Center in Monteagle, Tennessee. The Sewanee Conference is the oldest and largest Episcopal music conference in the country and can accept only 150 registrants. Two full scholarships are available to first-time attendees. Keith Shafer, Director of Music and Organist of Saint Paul's Church, Augusta, Georgia is the Director.

WOMEN OF VISION RETREAT

Sponsored by the Episcopal Church Women (ECW), the Women of Vision retreat is scheduled for July 29-31, 2011 at Beckwith Camp and Conference Center. This is a unique opportunity to empower women for ministry in all areas of their lives. The conference leaders are Cecil Williamson of the Diocese of Alabama and Joy Tway from our diocese.
