An Easter Message from Bishop Philip Duncan This past week I was at the University of the South (Sewanee) as the Bishop in Residence and it was a good time to share both our Diocese and the faith with students, faculty and staff. We are one of the owning diocese and for that we can give thanks to God for the blessing of ministry through education and worship taking place within that University and the Seminary. The Rev. Mark Wilson to be Chaplain at Fly Fishing Retreat at Kanuga

The Rev. Mark Wilson, rector of St. James Episcopal Church in Fairhope, Ala., and an avid fly fisherman will lead daily worship and spiritual reflections at the annual Fly Fishing Retreat at Kanuga Camp and Conference Center on May 8-12, 2011in Hendersonville, North Carolina.
"Fly-fishing is not so much about catching and releasing fish as just being in the stream, observing, having faith, being humbled," says the Rev. Mark Wilson. "It's a setting where God can teach us a lot about ourselves and following Christ."
Nationally-known fly tier Kevin Howell, owner of Davidson River Outfitters in Pisgah Forest, N.C. will be the fly fishing instructor for the retreat. more..

YOUTH EVENT! 4 Corners planned for May 21-22, 2011 The Commission on Youth Ministries is preparing for our next "4 Corners" event. Please mark your calendars for May 21-22, 2011 for an overnight of fun, fellowship, games, program, and more. The event will take place at Holy Nativity in Panama City, Florida. Please register by sending in the registration form and if you are a first time registrant for a diocesan youth program, also complete the mandatory participant forms. This even requires that all parish youth must be accompanied by a church sponsor. A sponsor must be a legal adult who has completed the national mandated training curriculum "Safeguarding God's Children" and have a current background check available to be verified. This event is for rising 9th-12th grade students. Deadline for registration is May 4th, 2011! The Diocesan Commission on Prison Ministry has developed a Cycle of Prayer for prisons, prisoners, staff, and families of prisoners and staff, encouraging prayers for various institutions in the Diocese. Live webcasts offered from Grace Episcopal Church, NYC
Live webcasts of the Good Friday Service and the Festive Easter morning celebration from Grace Episcopal Church in New York City will be offered by the Episcopal Church Office of Communication. Links will be posted on the home page of the Episcopal Church website, www.episcopalchurch.org. On Good Friday, April 22, beginning at 11 a.m. Central time, noon Eastern Time, the Good Friday service will include well-known hymns, a dramatic reading of St. John's passion, and reflections on Jesus' seven last words from the cross. On Sunday, April 24, the Festive Easter Service celebrating the Resurrection of Jesus Christ in liturgy and music will begin at 10 a.m. Central, 11 a.m. Eastern. |
Task force addresses issues of older adults, offers resources

[Episcopal News Service] As the first baby boomers reach retirement age, the Older Adult Ministries Task Force of the Episcopal Church is recognizing and addressing issues and concerns of the aging population, and making available online resources, according to an April 12 release from the office of public affairs.
In addition, the release says, through the task force the Episcopal Church is giving attention to the future and the possible impact and implications of an aging population on congregations.
"The reality of the first Baby Boomer turning 65 affects many aspects of our society, challenging policymakers, families, businesses, health care providers and church leaders at all levels to recognize the needs and attributes of aging individuals," task force Co-convener Jeri Sedlar of the Diocese of New York said in the release. "The effects of aging encompass the emotional, physical, social, financial and spiritual aspects of a person as they age."

Gently used clothes, furniture, books, plants, toys and everything else one could hope to find at a garage sale will be available.
All benefits from this sale will go to the ECW for their outreach programs.

A silent retreat will be offered Thursday, April 28, through Saturday, April 30, at the Visitation Monastery in Mobile, Alabama. "Come away to a quiet Place" during this holy season of Easter to rest and be renewed in the presence of the Risen Christ. The meditations will be based on the words of Jesus in the tenth chapter of the Gospel of John. "Jesus said, 'I came that you may have life, and have it abundantly' (John 10:10)." Beth Wilson is the retreat leader and The Reverend Marshall Craver is the retreat coordinator and worship leader.

APRIL 30 St. Paul's Thrift Shoppe, Daphne St. Paul's Thrift Shoppe will honor its volunteers at the Annual Volunteer's Luncheon on April 30, 2011 in the Christian Life Center at noon. Representatives from the various charities in the area will be recognized as they are given the Thrift Shoppe's contributions.
MAY 6 - 7 19th Annual Apalachicola Home & Garden Tour will feature Trinity RectoryAPALACHICOLA, FL - Plans are underway for the 19th annual "Historic Apalachicola Home & Garden Tour" sponsored by Trinity Episcopal Church on Friday and Saturday, May 6 and May 7, 2011. This year's theme, "Coastal Cottages", will feature Trinity's Rectory located at 79 Sixth St., and will spotlight some of Apalachicola's unique homes and gardens. St. Monica's is hosting a Farmer's Market on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month beginning May 7, 2011. We are currently seeking farmers, backyard growers, and other producers to participate. We also hope to attract crafters of homemade items such as soap, honey, yard ornaments and the like. The only "fee" vendors will be charged is a donation to Manna Food Pantry.

"Betsy" is the daughter and granddaughter of our parishioners, and grew up at St James, Eufaula. Read about "The Betsy Project" St. Christopher's Episcopal Church PENSACOLA, Florida - St. Christopher's in Pensacola is addressing its long-standing water run-off issues plus the need for safer, wider walkways by building "Memorial Walkways" around the church buildings.
