A MESSAGE FROM THE BISHOP March 11, 2011
My Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Please remember in your prayers the people of Japan, the surrounding areas in the Pacific Rim, the people of Hawaii and those on the West Coast of the United States who are experiencing the aftershocks of today's earlier earthquake in Japan and the ensuing tsunami which hit Hawaii a few hours ago and is now battering the West Coast. Clergy, please include all those affected by the earthquake and tsunami in Sunday's Prayers of the People. The Presiding Bishop's office has been in touch with Archbishop Nathaniel Uematsu of the Nippon So Ko Kai, who was in meetings in Kyoto during the time of the earthquake and is now in Osaka trying to communicate with the areas most affected by the devastation. He asks for prayers for Bishop John Kato and the people of the Diocese of Tohoku, which has been hit hardest. The Presiding Bishop's office continues to be in touch with Episcopal Relief & Development, as well as with Lambeth Palace. More information will be forthcoming as we learn more about ERD's plans for disaster relief. Your prayers and support are deeply appreciated. Bishop Philip Duncan
