NEWS Holy Nativity, Panama City | Grumpy patient priest blooms into storytelling blogger
By John Darrah, Parishioner Holy Nativity, Panama City In late October, Fr. Tom Weller of Holy Nativity, Panama City, had chest pains at the Sunday service and was diagnosed with a serious heart problem, and is currently planning for an operation in January. The reason I am writing is while we have all known that Tom is a wonderful man, most of us did not know he is such an accomplished blogger. At 75 he has found something new and has reluctantly taken up blogging after being convinced the way to keep friends and family up to date with what is happening. So he decided to keep a daily journal on the CaringBridge web site designed for just that purpose. So Tom started off like a grumpy old man with an inauspicious..." A best friend accused me owriter's block, so I'll have a go at update, though it is not part of my Being to write about myself, which truly is why I don't do Facebook!"
Early in the mornings he writes about his situation to keep us all up to date. But just as important, he has blossomed into a most interesting teller of tales - of life and death, happiness and sadness, and everything in between. I look forward to the each new installment and recommend everyone check it out. I recommend going to his journal and clicking Sort By: Oldest to Newest to be able to read in chronological order. http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/tomweller/mystory

Presiding bishop pledges continued support, prayers for Haiti on eve of quake anniversary
By ENS Staff [Episcopal News Service] As the first anniversary of the Jan. 12, 2010 Haitian earthquake approaches, Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori has called for prayers and expresses solidarity with the people of Haiti and the Episcopal Diocese of Haiti as they rebuild. "We continue to work with and pray for our brothers and sisters in Haiti," Jefferts Schori said in her Jan. 11 statement. "The Episcopal Church is urgently engaged in supporting the rebuilding of the cathedral complex, in addition to mission partnerships all over the nation. We hope for significant and measurable progress in the coming months in improving the lives of Haitians, helping to restore livelihoods, and stabilizing the institutions of communities and the nation." Alabama Episcopal Church medical team serves Haitians during quake anniversary Team members see progress amid challenges one year later By Mary Frances Schjonberg [Episcopal News Service] Two days before the first anniversary of the Jan. 12, 2010 earthquake that devastated vast portions of Haiti, young children were making music in the ruins of the Holy Trinity Cathedral in the capital of Port-au-Prince. The sight and sound of students of the Diocese of Haiti's Holy Trinity Music School practicing under the open-air shelter that now serves as the cathedral nave was "very encouraging," the Rev. Deacon Dave Drachlis of the Diocese of Alabama told Episcopal News Service in a telephone interview Jan. 10. The effort is part of Alabama's five-year companion-diocese relationship with the Diocese of Haiti. The relationship is focused on St. Simeon parish. The Diocese of Alabama sent six medical mission teams to Haiti during 2010 along with relief funds and supplies. Full story: http://www.episcopalchurch.org/79425_126549_ENG_HTM.htm

Taize' Prayer is continuing on the first and third Thursdays of the month. A group at St. Paul's, Daphne, will gather to pray for all of you and this world we live in. We meet in the narthex at 7 p.m. and, under candlelight, we "stop the world" for an hour and just quiet down as we share prayers, spoken and silent, gentle music from Taize and scripture. It's simple, calming and the world certainly needs all the prayers we can offer. Come and be calm with us!
