The Diocese of the Central Gulf Coast

ERD in the Diocese of the Central Gulf Coast
Greetings!

In this issue of The Coastline, the many events planned for October and November in our diocese are organized two ways: one by type (PLAY, LEARN, WORSHIP, LISTEN) and the other chronologically.  Seems as though we have two schools of thought as to which method is most effective, so both are displayed for your convenience.

A good way to be sure you aren't missing all of the news is simply to go to our website at www.diocgc.org and scroll through the posts.  Or access the site map for a text listing of posts and pages.

Enjoy this ever so slightly cooler weather and support our parish and commission events!

Peace.

The Nineteenth Sunday after Pentecost

THE COLLECT

Almighty and everlasting God, you are always more ready to hear than we to pray, and to give more than we either desire or deserve: Pour upon us the abundance of your mercy, forgiving us those things of which our conscience is afraid, and giving us those good things for which we are not worthy to ask, except through the merits and mediation of Jesus Christ our Savior; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Corrections....
Last week's announcement of St. Paul's Thrift Shop "Holiday Shoppe" in last week's issue of The Coastline SHOULD have said, St. Paul's, Daphne and NOT St. Paul's, Mobile.  Sorry for any confusion.

Taize' Prayer service returns to St. Paul's, Daphne

Taize' Prayer is continuing on the first and third Thursdays of the month. A group at St. Paul's, Daphne, will gather to pray for all of you and this world we live in. We meet in the narthex at 7 p.m. and, under candlelight, we "stop the world" for an hour and just quiet down as we share prayers, spoken and silent, gentle music from Taize and scripture. It's simple, calming and the world certainly needs all the prayers we can offer. Come and be calm with us!

Commission on the Environment and the Integrity of Creation

From the Chair of the Commission...

The Interfaith Environmental Initiative of Alabama, of which I'm a member, will be hosting an Energy and Water Stewardship Forum at the Birmingham otanical Gardens on October 21.  The cost for the day is $30 and includes breakfast and lunch.  The speakers are excellent and there will be lots of information that we can bring back to the diocese to get our congregations "greening".  I'm including attachments with information, registration instructions and the schedule.  If you can fit it into your schedule, it would be very worthwhile to attend.

From the Audubon Oil Spill Team

The oil gusher may have been plugged, but efforts to restore the Gulf Coast and protect the birds and other wildlife that depend on this region are far from over. Please join us October 6, 2010, 1 PM EDT for our next Gulf restoration webcast. We've got some interesting updates on what is happening on the ground and how restoration and recovery efforts are unfolding. Migrants are on the wing and we'll discuss how the oiled landscape along the coast could affect migrating birds. There will be plenty of time for your questions, too.

Please sign up and join us!

We hope you can make it, but as always, this webcast will be recorded and available for later viewing.
Thank you!

Audubon's Oil Spill Response Team

Green Tips

If water runs off your lawn easily, split your watering time into shorter periods to allow for better absorption.

Check the root zone of your lawn or garden for moisture before watering using a spade or trowel. If it's still moist two inches under the soil surface, you still have enough water.

Water your lawn and garden in the morning or evening when temperatures are cooler to minimize evaporation.

Commission on Youth Ministries

Hi it's Zac Russell. As a member of our Diocesan Commission on Youth Ministries, I attended a meeting August 28th where we discussed many things concerning the future of our diocesan-wide youth.  We talked briefly of new beginnings, Happening, and the Episcopal Youth Event, including their faults and where they are possibly heading in the near future. However the bulk of our time was spent ironing out the details concerning a new youth program called 4 Corners. 4 corners is a quarterly held lock-in for high school students full of worship, games, singing, food, and fellowship. The first one will be held November 6-7 at Saint Paul's in Daphne. The registration deadline is Friday, October 15th and the cost is $30.

Further details and registration forms will be available soon.
