Greetings!
|
"Grant us, Lord, not to be anxious about earthly things, but to love things heavenly; and even now, as we are placed among things that are passing away, to hold fast to those that shall endure....." These first lines of this Sunday's collect is beautiful, as most are. What comforting words to read, to hear, to say together.
In this past Sunday's Gospel reading we heard The Parable of the Lost Sheep. Fr. Mark Wilson of St. James, Fairhope, offers a reflection on this scripture lesson in this week's Anchor Lines, the parish newsletter. Read it here....
Peace

Disaster Response Coordinator Emergency Preparedness Plans....does your parish have one in place? |
The following article is the last in a series of
articles that highlight what parishes and institutions are doing in our
diocese to prepare for disaster, especially hurricanes. Thank you to Sally Green
of Wilmer Hall, David Owens of St Paul's, Daphne, the Rev. Greg Hein of St Judes, Niceville, and the Rev. Ken Cumbie of
St Luke's, Mobile.

St. Luke's, Mobile
Disasters like a hurricane can happen anytime, anywhere. They can force
you to evacuate your home and eliminate the most basic of comforts. Therefore, preparation is power! Five years ago, St. Luke's Episcopal Church did not have a Disaster
Preparedness and Response Plan. We were woefully unprepared. We were
determined that in the future we would be prepared and that we would have a plan to respond to the needs of both parishioners and neighbors! Full text here

Commission on Youth Ministries
|
Hi it's Zac Russell. As a member of our Diocesan
Commission on Youth Ministries, I attended a meeting August 28th
where we discussed many things concerning the future of our diocesan-wide
youth. We talked briefly of new beginnings, Happening, and the
Episcopal Youth Event, including their faults and where they are
possibly heading in the near future. However the bulk of our time was
spent ironing out the details concerning a new youth program called 4
Corners. 4 corners is a quarterly held lock-in for high school students
full of worship, games, singing, food, and fellowship. The first one
will be held November 6-7 at Saint Paul's in Daphne. The registration
deadline is Friday, October 15th and the cost is $30.
Further details and registration forms will be available soon. In His Service, Zac Russel St. Peter's, Bon Secour

Some reading for you.....
|
"Psalms - A Spiritual Commentary" from Skylight Paths Publishing, by M. Basil Pennington, OCSO, illustrations by Phillip Ratner, 149 pages, paperback, c. 2006, 2008, $16.99
[Skylight Paths Publishing] Showing how the Psalms give profound and candid expression to both our highest aspirations and our deepest pain, the late, highly respected Cistercian Abbot M. Basil Pennington shares his reflections on some of the most beloved passages from the Bible's most widely read book. Pennington is once again joined by Jewish artist Phillip Ratner, whose evocative works will lead you into more meaningful contemplation of the inner spirit of the Psalms.
Pennington describes how the monastic tradition of regular reflection on the Psalms -- a technique St. Benedict called the "work of God," or Opus Dei -- can help you transform your everyday life into a powerful life of prayer. Enriched by Jewish and Christian faith, the drawings and meditations speak to every person wanting both to connect with their most human longings and to forge a vital connection with the Divine.
