Cathedral Sunday Celebration on April 25th

From The Very Rev. Johnny W. Cook, Dean, Christ Church Cathedral, Mobile, AL

On Sunday, April 25, 2010, we will celebrate the fifth anniversary of the seating of the Right Reverend Philip Menzie Duncan II, Bishop of the Diocese of the Central Gulf Coast in Christ Church Cathedral, Mobile, Alabama. We ask that the Cathedral be remembered in your prayers on that Sunday morning.

Our mission remains unchanged as we continue to grow into our role as your diocesan Cathedral.  The second phase of a multi-year restoration of our campus is complete, and we are embarking on a visioning process for long-range planning to position us better to serve as your Cathedral for the next century.

We plan to mark this anniversary annually, on the Sunday closest to April 23.  On this day, we will give thanks for the opportunity given to us to serve the Diocese and ask for your prayers that we may be faithful to this sacred calling.

Gracious God, we remember today Christ Church Cathedral, the cathedral church of our diocese and the seat of our Bishop Philip, that it may continue to grow in spiritual strength and serve as a symbol of the unity of our ministry, through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Opportunity to go to Haiti with Project K.I.D.:
Proposed dates are June 20-26

St. Paul's parishioner, Jane Shoultz, sent this email out to several people who have shown interest in going to Haiti to do recovery mission work. The reprint of the email follows:

From Jane Shoultz:
We finally have a "potential" date for a mission to Haiti. June 20-26, 2010.  Borden (Morrow) has contacted American Airlines and they have told him they would hold 20 discounted tickets for him for 24 hours...Price is appr. $765 from Pensacola.

Paige Ellison-Smith from St. Paul's and founder of Project-K.I.D.,  is working with the United Nations and Medishare to recruit medical teams to Haiti, as well as continuing with the Project-KID efforts.  There is a Level 1 Trauma Hospital set up at the airport in Port -au-Prince.  They provide housing in tents on the grounds, where showers and latrines are available...and two meals a day - breakfast and dinner - AT NO CHARGE TO THE VOLUNTEER.  You would need to take energy bars or something similar for your lunches.  They even have plenty of meds and medical equipment that has been donated - so no expense for ordering meds.  Basically, the only cost to you will be your airfare.

This is pretty short notice - but about the best we can do. Paige has offered to speak to any interested to explain her understanding of what is needed.  She is going to Haiti about every other week...and said the teams coming in are dwindling...and that she saw folks in need of medical care turned away last week because of the scarcity of medical personnel.  Thack (Dyson) , Borden (Morrow), and I (Jane Shoultz) plan to meet with her - hopefully this week - to get a better idea of what would be expected - and whether there is any need at all for "grunts" - or if they can only use medical folks.  She said dental teams that can do something besides pulling teeth would be welcome - but they must be able to do other things.  Obviously, surgeons and anesthetists would be a big help.

Please let me know ASAP if you want to go and/or if you know someone else who might want to go.
