Cursillo #142 is April 22-25 has been canceled. Thus, there will be no closing on Sunday, April 25th.

The next Cursillo is November 4-7, 2010. If you are considering going or have questions about this weekend please see your priest or your parish Cursillo chairperson.

Kanuga Youth Week 2010!
Junior Young People (JYP), Senior Young People (SYP), and Adults Who Work With Youth (AWWWY) is right around the corner.  Every year, Kanuga holds a conference for the youth and youth workers in the Episcopal Church. Our diocese has attended this event for years and this year we have chartered a 45 person bus for travel to and from this conference.  If this is something you are interested in being a part of. Around the Diocese is an e-newsletter for clergy, lay leaders, members and friends of the Episcopal Diocese of the Central Gulf Coast. The newsletter takes the place of The COASTLINE, the former printed copy of the diocesan newspaper.

We welcome submissions that have a connection to the ministry of parishes and ministries of the diocese and/or the approval of a diocesan commission, agency or department.

Christus Annual Conference,  April 15-16, to feature the Rev. Dr. Tilden Edwards of the Shalem Institute

St. Paul's, Mobile to host Edwards on the 14th
 

This year's Christus Annual Conference will feature Rev. Dr. Tilden H. Edwards, senior fellow and founder of the Shalem Institute for Spiritual Formation in Washington, DC.

An Episcopal priest and author or editor of numerous books and articles on the spiritual life, Edwards is known internationally for his retreats and workshops on Christian meditation and contemplative practice. His books Living in the Presence and Sabbath Time are ideal reading for individuals or study groups; or for spiritual guides, Spiritual Director, Spiritual Companion. His lectures will be given at Byrne Hall, Spring Hill College: April 15, 7-8:30 pm: "Living With the Mind in the Heart"; and April 16, 9-10:30 am: "The Gift of Contemplative Presence in Spiritual Direction."

Flippin' for Wilmer Hall 3rd annual pancake breakfast this Saturday, April 17
 



The Kiwanis Club of Mobile will be flipping pancakes at the 3rd Annual Pancake Breakfast for Wilmer Hall at Saturday, April 17th from 7 am until 11 am.  $5 eat in or carry out! In addition to the pancakes, join in on the pancake toss, face painting, inflatable jumps and a visit from Coach Joey Jones and his "undefeated" USA Jaguar Football Team!

[Episcopal News Service] First Lady Michelle Obama and Jill Biden, the wife of the U.S. vice president, April 13 visited a Port-au-Prince earthquake survivor settlement run by the Episcopal Diocese of Haiti.

The two women walked to College Ste. Pierre, a wrecked diocesan high school, as part of their one-day surprise tour of the Haitian capital.  Full story here

The Episcopal Church joins other voices around the United States in urging citizens to complete the census form, asking all to Be counted, or lose out! The deadline is around the corner, so there is still time to participate. Census forms were issued via United States Post Office, and the last day to mail back the census forms is Friday, April 16.
According to The Episcopal Church Office of Government Relations, based in Washington DC, there are some vital aspects of the census to remember. See why its important to you, your family, your community....
29th Annual Men's Conference Report

The Right Reverend Bruce MacPherson, the Bishop of Western Louisiana, was the principal speaker at the 29th annual Men's Conference of the Central Gulf Coast, held March 5, 6 & 7 at Beckwith Camp and
Conference Center. He explored The Community of Faith with the 37 attendees from parishes all over our diocese. In addition to serious reflection, all enjoyed renewing old friendships and making new ones, excellent food, including wonderful Apalachicola oysters supplied by Sam Richardson, music by Charlie Roose, browsing in Thee Store collection of religious books and Episcopal articles, and enjoying beautiful spring weather on the Beckwith grounds.   Full story and photos

Spiritual Pilgrimage to the Holy Land

Fr. Ray Waldon, Canonically resident in the central Gulf Coast but currently the Priest In Charge of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Talladega is leading a spiritual pilgrimage to the Holy Land December 1-9. The trip is open to the public and will run about $2800 per person all inclusive from Pensacola or Mobile. Father Waldon says the pilgrimage will include stops at the major Christian sites of Israel including Bethlehem, Cana, the Garden, and a boat ride on the Dead Sea. Pilgrims will also visit major Jewish historical sites like Qumran where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered and Megiddo. The Muslim Dome of the Rock will also be visited and is the site of where Abraham was the sacrifice Isaac. Limited seating is still available by calling St. Peter's at 256-362-2505. During the fall, pilgrims will meet with Father Waldon to learn a few key phrases in Hebrew and to see videos of the  Holy Land.   This is a non denominational pilgrimage arranged by Friendship Tours.

Trinity, Apalachicola's Annual Tour of Homes April 30 - May 1, 2010




Apalachicola, FL - Plans are underway for the 18th annual "Historic Apalachicola Home & Garden Tour" sponsored by Trinity Episcopal Church. The weekend will begin Friday, April 30, with Evensong at 5:30 pm followed by a lecture at 6:30 pm at Trinity Episcopal Church. Homes will be open to visitors on Saturday, May 1 from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm. Tour tickets will be on sale starting at 9:30 am May 1 for $20. Lunch will be served from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm in Trinity's Benedict Hall at a cost of $10. Two Iconography Workshops are planned in the Diocese in May. The first will be held at St. Simon's, Ft. Walton Beach on May 3-7. The second workshop will take place at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church in Pensacola, May 10 - 14.  Workshop leader Teresa Harrison, wife of Edward Harrison, former Rector of St. Christopher's in Pensacola) and now residing in Coronado, California, is not only a noted iconographer, but a talented and sympathetic instructor as well.
