A MESSAGE FROM THE BISHOP REFERENCE: Vocational Deacons School
As you are aware, the program for the formation of Vocational Deacons in the Diocese of the Central Gulf Coast began January 2009, with the beginning of the Vocational Deacons School. This two-year program of study, reflection, community-building and field experience can lead to ordination to the Diaconate. The ministries of Vocational Deacons in this diocese will reach out to the needs, hopes and concerns of people in our local communities. Deacons will also model the ministry of servanthood to the people of our congregations and encourage the increasing outreach of the entire church.
In an effort to continue providing information about the Vocational Diaconate program and introducing the pathway of discernment for those who may be called to this ministry, the Commission on Ministry has planned two diocesan-wide informational workshops in 2010. These workshops will take place on:
Saturday, 30 January 2010 at St. Matthew's, Chipley from 10:00am to 1:00pm and Saturday, 6 March 2010 at St. Paul's, Daphne from 10:00am to 1:00pm.
Anyone interested in this ministry, needs to communicate that interest to their clergy or Sr. Warden-in-Charge. If you plan to attend, please notify Mary Poss at the Diocesan office (850) 434-7337 or mary@diocgc.org. At the conclusion of the meeting, the steps in this discernment process will be outlined for all who wish to prayerfully consider a call to this vocation.
Thank you.
