PENSACOLA, FL - September 17, 2009 - Bishop Philip Duncan has announced that the last print issue of
THE COASTLINE, the official newspaper for the Diocese of the Central Gulf Coast, will be printed in late September and will be labeled FALL 2009. The deadline for parishes and Coastline Communicators to send in news and announcements has been extended to Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009.
THE COASTLINE budget has a substantial remaining balance which does not include printing and postage for the final issue. Bishop Duncan has requested for those funds to be used to fill other "holes" in the Diocesan budget which is under severe strain.
"The weekly e-news and the website has been and will continue to be the most current source for information regarding the Diocese," says Cindy McCrory, Director of Communications for the Diocese and Editor of THE COASTLINE. "The advantage of online information is that it offers more flexibility and space for expanded stories and a
spacious photo gallery. Our readers can download and print any story or photograph they wish and can forward stories and photos to friends and family. My hope is that the parishes will print stories for those parishioners who do not frequently use the computer or who have specific requests."

As Editor of THE COASTLINE and webmaster of
the diocesan website, Cindy McCrory posts all announcements and stories printed in the hard copy issues of the newspaper. Visitors to the website often have information up to a month earlier than those who read the newspaper.
"Many event announcements miss the print issues entirely because the events are announced and then occur before the next issue is printed," the editor continued.
Parish news will continue to be covered by the Editor as well as the numerous Coastline Communicators throughout the diocese. Rather than having a pdf version of the newspaper posted online as in the past, all stories and photos will be in online form within the website with printable versions of the stories. Ideas for the future
include an annual "yearbook" which can be ordered online and mailed to
the reader/purchaser for a small cost.
