"Manners Monday" - Making Family Dinners Fashionable
family dinner

Sitting down to a family meal together as a unit has certainly become a thing of the past.  The old image of mom whipping up a multi-course meal perfectly dressed with a neatly pressed apron and matching pearls while dad and the children wait patiently at the table with napkins in lap and impeccable posture are gone, or at least forgotten.  The days of wrapping up work by 5pm in order to be home in time for dinner with the kids has become virtually impossible. With the rise of two income families and the increase in extra-curricular activities, dining together as a family is definitely more difficult than it used to be and the reverberations are felt far and wide. Read more...

Character Test

Session four of our "Let's Dance!" Cotillion series is dedicated specifically to character-building traits and character development as we believe these skills are essential to raising happy, successful children. A recent article in the New York Times Magazine takes an in-depth look at this very subject focusing on two New York City schools who have begun implementing character study as part of the overall assessment of their children and in one case effected a twice yearly character report card.  The fascinating report raises the question of whether character is equally as important as intellect. What are your thoughts? Read more...

Table Setting

Greetings!

The days of ladylike and gentlemanly behavior are back!  Simply turn on your television set or open up any fashion magazine and you will see the words used unabashedly.  From the lineup up of new shows like "Pan Am" and "How to Be a Gentleman" to the "Mad Men" inspired new Fall collection from Banana Republic and the exclusive Rachel Zoe line for Neiman Marcus, lady chic and male dapper are reclaiming their place at the helm of today's trends and we're jumping on the bandwagon!

With the constant barrage of casual, cavalier behavior persistently present in the media, we welcome this new interest in refinement and decorum with open arms.  We can't think of a better place to begin than with our youngest members of society and we have a number of exciting programs in place to address these very issues.

Our "LET'S DANCE!" COTILLION for 3rd-7th graders kicked off it's third season earlier this month and we are grateful to be working with such a lovely group of families. We received a number of calls for additional families wishing to join us in October and we are happy to accommodate them as well. For our teens, we are pleased to offer the "ART OF CIVILITY" FOR TEENS program which provides this age group with the skills they require to navigate their way into adulthood with grace and confidence. To introduce the younger ones to the world of etiquette and manners, our "YOUNG AMBASSADOR'S ETIQUETTE" program at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel poses the perfect platform for children ages 6-12.

In this issue, we are delighted to share with you our special interview for Radio Disney, as well as to explore with you a compelling article that takes a profound look at our children's character.

We thank you for your continued interest and support and wish everyone a peaceful and relaxing weekend!

Warmly,

Lisa
