"After Class, Skimpy Equality"

I advise all parents sending their daughters off to college this month to take a look at this unsettling article by Lisa Belkin in the New York Times. It is one thing to set our girls up with room and board, but quite another to sit them down and speak frankly about maintaining dignity and self-respect. Greetings!
I seriously cannot fathom the fact that summer is almost officially over and it is once again time to usher in a new school year. So long to sleeping in 'til almost nine in the morning, goodbye to leisurely breakfasts in front of "The Today Show," farewell to long lazy days and carefree late nights. Oh summer, I will remember you well...
The transition into a new school year is never easy, even for the parents. The shifting of gears back into work and schedules, taking on more responsibility, practicing self-discipline and managing our time is not always fun. But this yin and yang is a natural part of life and it will go along much more easily if we simply choose to embrace it rather than kick and scream our way through.
To assist your child in their road ahead and offer yourself a little extra peace of mind, this special "Back 2 School" newsletter is filled with class offerings to smooth out any ruffled feathers. Our "LET'S DANCE!" COTILLION 6-month series for kids in the 3rd-7th grades is guaranteed to improve healthy character development. For those embarking on the arduous school admissions process, our "STAND OUT INTERVIEWS" class will add increased confidence. For a fun way to incorporate everyday manners into your child's life, our "YOUNG AMBASSADOR'S ETIQUETTE" is the one for you!
In this issue, we are also pleased to feature our "Back 2 School" manners tips for both the younger set, as well as the college bound. These are timeless topics that, unlike the latest Fall fashion trend, will never go out of style!
Enjoy and have a fantastic Labor Day Weekend!!
My best,
Lisa

Stand Out Interviews
Monday, September 12, 2011
5:00pm to 6:30pm
McCormick & Schmick's Beverly Hills
The purpose of the interview is for the school to determine if you are a good candidate and match for their institution. It is also an opportunity to ask questions about the school's philosophy and curriculum to determine if it is a good fit for you.To get into the top schools, children must ace the interview. They should be civilized, even likable. A quick review of etiquette and manners before the formal interview process begins provides candidates with that extra edge in the increasingly competitive school admissions game. Sign up now!
