Education for Ministry
- Are you interested in joining a close knit faith community at Trinity Church?
- Do you seek companionship on your spiritual journey?
- Do you long to explore your faith more deeply? Discover connections between scripture, our faith tradition, and your daily life?
- Do seek support in identifying and carrying out your vocation, ministry, purpose in life?
- Are you grappling with life's "big" questions?
- Are you a seeker?
If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, Education for Ministry (EfM) might be what you are looking for.
What is Education for Ministry?
Education for Ministry (EfM) is a program designed to support Christian lay people in carrying out their ministries in daily life. As the emphasis on lay ministry has grown, EfM has come to be an important part of that growth by providing a program that develops an informed and knowledgeable laity. Sponsored by the School of Theology of the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee, EfM aims to provide participants with a theological education that focuses on learning to think theologically, understanding our Christian heritage, deepening our faith, and developing a Christian community.
Participants commit to participating in the program for one year at time. Completion of the entire program takes four years. Participants study the Old Testament, the New Testament, church history, and contemporary theological issues and choices in successive years. Participants also engage in a series of common lessons andweeklyworship. The seminar group is the nucleus of the Education for Ministry program. A group consists of six to twelve students and a trained mentor meeting weekly over the course of a nine-month academic year. Through study, prayer, and reflection, EfM groups move toward a new understanding of the fullness of God's kingdom. At Trinity Church, EfM is led by Steven Isham and Donna Laessig, and meets Thursday evenings, 7:00-9:30, from September through May. Tuition is $350 per year, payable to the University of the South. Partial tuition assistance may be available. For more information about enrolling in Trinity's EfM group, contact Donna Laessig (908-420-4337) or Steven Isham (609-937-7535).
For more information about the program, go the EfM website: http://www.sewanee.edu/EFM/index.htm

Read All About It! Trinity Mission Trips to Malawi and El Salvador Please take a moment as you walk down the hallway to Pierce Hall to read the blog posts from the summer's mission trip travelers. In their own words and pictures (and a thoughtful sermon), they present a great record of this important part of the Outreach efforts of your fellow parishioners. Visiting Villages in Malawi in Partnership with the Global AIDS Interfaith Alliance
Trinity Outreach has made a three year $45,000 commitment to support the people of Malawi through a partnership with Global AIDS Interfaith Alliance (GAIA). To better understand the needs of Malawians and the impact of our support, Trinity parishioners Ruth Thurmond Scott, Julie Denny with Deborah Agnew traveled there for a two-week mission trip.
Return Trip to El Salvador together with Parishioners from St. Peter's Church, Phoenixville, PA As part of Trinity's partnership with Cristosal, a group returned to El Salvador this past July. Theo Block, Christian Cooper, Diane Paulsell, the Reverend Jenny Replogle and Trisha Thorme traveled with several parishioners from St. Peter's in Phoenixville, another energetic Cristosal parish.

Seeds to Sew Fabric Collection
You know those piles of fabric tucked on the top shelf of your closet? The ones you dreamed of making into the perfect skirt, slipcover or little girl's party dress? If you're like so many of us, that little girl has grown up, the chair you were going to slipcover has long since been replaced and the pattern for that skirt is way outdated.
So...Donate that fabric to Seeds to Sew!
Seeds to Sew International, Inc. is a Hopewell, NJ non-profit organization, founded by Ellyn Ito, to improve the lives of girls and women in disadvantaged communities, through education and job skills training.
Fabric must be printed, cotton or cotton/poly blend and at least 17" square. Trinity will collect donated fabric from in a plastic bin marked "Seeds to Sew" across from Pierce Hall. The fabric will be regularly picked up by Ellyn and her colleagues, and carried to Kenya by traveling members of the STS team.

Got Stuff?
The Choir is looking for unique items, antiques, or services to auction at its Silent Auction being held on Saturday, October 13th. Do you have a vacation home or a time-share you can donate for a week? Special skills you can offer or teach? Art or antiques that need a good home? If one of the reasons you belong to Trinity Church is its exemplary music program, please consider a donation to get the Choir to England in August 2013, where they will be in residence at Lincoln and St. Paul's Cathedrals - that is, if you can help us reach our fund-raising goals!

Downsizing or Moving?

Or, just cleaning out closets and drawers? Please remember Trinity's two annual Rummage sales that benefit Trinity's Outreach Programs. Donations are welcomed 24/7 on the bench outside Pierce Hall with receipts available at the Reception Desk down the hall. Rummage is putting out the call for cold weather items for its "EARLY BIRD HOLIDAY SALE" on October 26-27 -- coats and jackets, sweaters/sweat shirts and boots in good condition -- in addition to clothing for all ages and sizes, better housewares that will make affordable holiday gifts, costume jewelry, and stylish clothing for women and men that will be a hit at any holiday party!
|
Your Donations = Financial Support for Outreach! Fewer donations = Less Financial Support
Thanks to your donations and volunteer efforts, the Spring Rummage Sale on April 27-29 raised more than $29,000 -- an all-time high in recent years! Now, the drive for the Early Bird Holiday Sale has begun and we are asking for your donations so the traditional Fall Rummage Sale on Friday/Saturday October 26/27 will be equally successful. We need clothing (especially winter) for all tastes, ages and sizes, kitchenware and household goods, electronics, linens, small furniture, books and toys, and works of art. Highlights of the Early Bird Holiday Sale include gifts and decorations and the boutiques of clothes for women and men. During the Summer as you go through closets and drawers, clean out the garage or might be "down sizing", please think of Trinity Rummage and help make the Fall Sale a success! Donations are accepted 24/7 and can be left on the bench outside Pierce Hall. Donation receipts are available at the Reception Desk during church office hours. Thank you from the Rummage Committee

Trinity Companions
Trinity's ministry to residents of Merwick Nursing Home has been rekindled, thanks to a number of you who have responded to the Outreach Committee's plea. Already, we hear of the pleasure that these visits bring to people who need companionship and conversation. The number of residents who attend the monthly Eucharist Service has greatly increased. The staff on the floor tell us that our visits have made a huge difference; we see it in the faces of the people we greet. Our visits to residents have been made during the day and early evening, privately in residents' rooms or in the dining room where all gather. We encourage visitors to briefly record their visits in a loose-leaf notebook at the front desk so as to inform other visitors about who was visited and when. Please let us know, if you have not already done so, of your interest in joining Trinity Companions. So far, the following wonderful people have become involved: From the Altar Guild, we thank Mary Alden and Donna Laessig. We thank those who have already volunteered to be companions: Loretta Cooper, Dulcie Bull, Judy Lowry, Leanne Gentile, Robin Gilbert, Thalia Mingo and Don Mann. We thank any of you who would still like to join Trinity Companions. You will find this ministry very rewarding
Please contact us at 609-924-5931 or julianamcintyre@gmail.com
