Sung Compline this Sunday at 7:00 p.m.

Trinity choir-members again offer a quiet, peaceful resonance with the early beginnings of the Church. Compline was the final service of day in Monastaries ("completion"). With all the day's tasks done, one could focus the mind on God and give thanks for yet another glorious day. Our Compline service lasts about one-half hour, is performed by candlelight, with incense adding a third sense to the visual and aural experience. "Come as you are;" is the dress code. No sermon. No offering. Just harmony and peace. Please join us!

Bishop Councell's Visitation May 13
Adults interested in Confirmation, Reception, or Reaffirmation

Bishop Councell will be joining us at Trinity Church on May 13 for a visitation to include the rites of confirmation, reception and reaffirmation.  In preparation I asked that you join us each Sunday for the Adult Forum at 10:00 a.m.  We are working our way systematically through our Eucharistic liturgy to learn how our liturgy shapes our Anglican identity, our faith and our Christian life.

If you are interested, please contact Fr. Paul.

Your Donations = Financial Support for Outreach!
Fewer Donations = Less Financial Support

Thanks to your donations and volunteer efforts, the Early Bird Holiday Sale last October raised $16,000 - no small feat on an unexpected snowy day! At the conclusion of that sale, some donations were saved for future rummage sales while the rest were donated to charities to help those in need. Now, the drive to April has begun and we are asking for your donations so the traditional Spring Rummage Sale on Friday/Saturday April 27/28 will be equally successful. We need winter and summer clothing for all ages and sizes, kitchenware and household goods, electronics, linens, small furniture, books and toys. Highlights of the spring sale include the traditional Boutique of antiques and other special items, fashions boutiques, and works of art, jewelry, electronics, linens and toys. As the time for "Spring Cleaning" approaches, we hope you will think of Trinity Rummage and help make the Spring Sale a success! Donations are accepted 24/7 except for the week before Easter and can be left on the bench outside Pierce Hall. Donation receipts are available at the Reception Desk during church office hours.

Thank you from the Rummage Committee

GAIA-Trinity Partnership: Mkanda Mobile Health Clinic Fourth Quarter Report

 GAIA

This fourth quarter 2011  report is informative and provides an update on the medical care assisted by Trinity in Malawi.  We encourage you to read the report to appreciate the activities on the ground, including intriguing metrics (page 5), observations of patients visits, and new challenges.

"New Challenges"

 Mobile Clinic Truck

As a consequence of the global recession, the Malawian government's ability to care for its citizens has been compromised.  Previously the government made basic medicines (antibiotics and antimalarials) available through government-sponsored clinics.  However, a shortage of foreign currency means that government-run clinics are not able to supply these medications.  In some areas government clinics lack HIV test kits and antiretrovirals are being rationed on a two-week rather than monthly basis.  We are monitoring the situation closely to see if any of our MHC clients experience difficulty accessing their ARV medications, and if so, we will work with the District Health Office to resolve the issue."   To read the full report, click here for the PDF, or here for the DOCX

Also view an intriguing video of bed nets to evade Malaria being introduced to villagers. To see video click here.

Got Summer Plans?
Consider a Mission Trip to El Salvador

Trinity Outreach is considering another mission trip to El Salvador in summer 2012. The trip would likely be for 7-8 days, including 2 travel days and would be coordinated by our mission partner Cristosal. The trip will involve visiting communities that are working with Cristosal on a variety of community development projects. Families with teens age 16 or older are especially welcome! Estimated cost is $1200-$1500 per person, including airfare, lodging, food, and transporation while in El Salvador. For more information, please contact Diane Paulsell (dpaulsell@gmail.com) or Trisha Thorme ( tthorme@yahoo.com) by January 31, 2012.

Progressive Dinner

A series of Progressive Dinners will be held on Saturday, March 3rd in the greater Princeton area. The cost is $25 per person for the entire evening and proceeds will go towards the programs that St. Nick's supports. There are a few remaining opportunities to host one of the three courses: either cocktails, dinner or dessert. And lots of opportunity to sign up for the dinner of your choice. We would like to ask that you be willing to bring an appetizer, a side dish, a dessert or bottle of wine. Let's make it easy for the generous Trinity members that have offered to open up their homes. If you have questions or would like more details, please contact Jennifer Hayden at (609) 466-3992 or  mhayden500@comcast.net

You can sign up to attend or host a progressive dinner here.

Trinity Companions

Trinity's ministry to residents of  Merwick Nursing Home has been rekindled, thanks to a number of you who have responded to the Outreach Committee's plea. Already, we hear of the pleasure that these visits bring to people who need companionship and conversation. The number of residents who attend the monthly Eucharist Service has greatly increased.  The staff on the floor tell us that our visits have made a huge difference;  we see it in the faces of the people we greet.

Our visits to residents have been made during the day and early evening, privately in residents' rooms or in the dining room where all gather. We encourage visitors to briefly  record their visits in a loose-leaf notebook at the front desk so as to inform other visitors about who was visited and when. Please let us know, if you have not already done so, of your interest in joining Trinity Companions.

So far, the following wonderful people have become involved: From the Altar Guild, we thank Mary Alden and Donna Laessig. We thank those who have already volunteered to be companions: Loretta Cooper,  Dulcie Bull, Judy Lowry, Leanne Gentile, Robin Gilbert, Thalia Mingo and Don Mann. We thank any of you who would still like to join Trinity Companions. You will find this ministry very rewarding

"Praying Our Story"
Lenten Retreat at Grace-St. Paul's, Mercerville

Our Holy Scriptures are filled with stories of ordinary people living their
ordinary lives and finding themselves met there by a covenant God of
unconditional love. Their experiences shed light on ours. For that to
happen, we have to be present to our day-to-day moments, expect that God will show up, and cultivate a heart aware of and ready to notice God's love at work in our experiences. This retreat morning will offer specific guidance toward finding God as vibrantly alive in our own real-life stories:

Saturday, March 10, 9 to noon, at Grace-St. Paul's Mercerville
(www.gracestpaul.org), led by Sr. Rita Woehlcke, SSJ, a longtime spiritual director and retreat leader focusing on the moments of our lives where God finds and partners with us. No required fee, though donations toward support of the retreat leader gratefully accepted.
RSVP to parishoffice@gracestpaul.org

Lenten Icon Workshop

 St. Michael the Archangel Icon

Maureen McCormick, Trinity parishioner and long-time student of the Prosopon School of Iconology, will offer a workshop for beginning students of the ancient sacred art of iconography. Each student will complete an icon of St. Michael the Archangel using the same natural materials and techniques as have been used for centuries: carved wood boards prepared with gesso made from chalk and glue, finely ground clay, pure gold leaf, and ground mineral pigments in an emulsion made from egg yolk. As iconography is a spiritual discipline as much as a sacred art, the underlying theology and symbolism of the icon will be equally emphasized. Previous artistic experience is helpful but not necessary. The workshop will consist of seven Tuesday evening sessions, plus two Saturdays. Step-by-step instructions and all necessary materials will be provided.  For more information, click here.

Adult Education Class: Reflections on the Book of Job

Sundays at 10:00 a.m. in the Library

Please join Summerlee Staten, our PTS adult education seminary intern, for a 14-week class focusing on the first 14 chapters of the Book of Job. This class will consider the theological implications of Job as well as the various works of art that have been influenced by the book. Utilizing film, visual art, music and drama, the class will consider how the church has interpreted the story of Job and how this deeply philosophical text can still speak to us today. This class begins next week on Sunday, January 15 at 10:00am in the Library.
