It's the most wonderful time of the year
|

This week I came across wonderful words from a monastic
liturgy: Veniet Dominus et non tardabit, ut illuminet abscondita
tenebrarum. The Lord will come soon, will not delay. The Lord will make the darkest places
bright. That is the wonderful good
news which we now prepare to receive and proclaim. The Lord is coming! The light of the world will brighten even the
darkest corners of creation.
As we begin our Advent journey let us do so with expectant
and joyful hearts. The Lord will soon be
born. Alleluia! The Light of the world is ready to break
forth. Alleluia! The angels in heaven will sing of joy and
hope. Alleluia!
My friends ready your hearts and souls for the Lord will
come soon. The world will be transformed
and our hearts enlivened. It is indeed,
"the most wonderful time of the year!"
Embrace it. Live it. Open yourself to the Holy Spirit! The Lord is coming. Darkness will be banished
and light will break forth.
Welcome, people of Trinity Church, welcome to the most
wonderful time of the year.
Peace and Blessings in this season of life and joy.

"Did you get my pledge?"That is a common question in any parish church.
Elly Matsil our finance staff member here at Trinity, has asked that we ask a reverse question:
Did you get our thank you note from Trinity for pledging?
If you did not receive a thank you, we did not receive your pledge. If so, please call or email Elly at matsile@trinityprinceton.org

Please let us know if you find yourself in the hospital!
|
An important reminder from your Pastoral Care Commission: Stricter guidelines regarding patient information are now in place that
impact hospital visits by the clergy and members of the church. If you are hospitalized and
desire pastoral care support, you or your family members should notify
the church office, or one of the clergy. Upon admission to the
hospital, please state both your denomination and place of worship for
the inclusion of your medical records. Otherwise, we have no way of
knowing your situation and needs. This information will be made known to the Pastoral Care Commission.

Gordon Graham on this week's lectionary readings |
Advent I is the start of a new Christian year. The readings
are always powerfully apocalyptic - passages from Jeremiah and Luke (this year)
or Isaiah and Matthew (last year) that focus on the end of time, and the Second
Coming of Christ. Why do we begin the year by thinking about the Second Coming,
and not the First - the birth of Jesus? The answer is that the Incarnation is
NOT the start of the story of our salvation, but rather a crucial moment within
it. At the start of a new spiritual year it is essential that we bring to mind
the great
cosmic sweep of time within which God acts - from Creation to
Redemption - and thereby renew our sense of the immeasurable 'power, might and
majesty' of the God we worship, a sense easily, and comfortably, submerged in
the more homely images of Bethlehem.
At the same time, this is not simply a matter of cosmic
theology. The task is to shape our own lives around the very same story, and to
grasp this truth -- that for each one of us Birth is the moment of creation and
Death the end of time, and that at some point in our journey from the cradle to
the grave, God comes to us in Christ as our salvation.
Advent I is also the Sunday on which we use Thomas Cranmer's
most enduring Collect, a prayer that he specially composed for the first Book
of Common Prayer in 1549. It has served its purpose for 460 years, and even now
has been retained in all the newest versions of the Prayerbook. This is because
of the wonderful way in which Cranmer uses Biblical phrases to weave together
the cosmic and the personal aspects of Advent. His most beautiful Collect gives
us the words to ask that in the time of our mortal lives, we may come to
acknowledge the astonishing humility with which God came to visit us, and
thereby find the grace to cast away the works of darkness.

Men's early bird (6:30am) Tuesday morning Bible study welcomes you
|
First and third Tuesdays of each month 6:30 AM in Flemer Library.
Contact: Charles Stenard
charles.stenard@comcast.net
This group, currently of six regular participants, was formed
several years ago by a Trinity men's retreat, seeking a continuation of
fellowship and contemplative study of holy scripture. The group welcomes new
participants. We adopted an Ignatian form of study, wherein at each meeting,
one participant reads aloud the appointed gospel passage of the day twice,
followed by a silent period allowing the passage to be absorbed. Then the
participants share their thoughts, particularly how the passage speaks to them
and their lives. The group adjourns at 7:30
AM and breakfast together at the Carousel. Prominent features of
the experience of the group include friendship, mutual respect,
confidentiality, and learning from one another.
