God is working
|
|
Today, as
I usually do on Thursday, I sat at my computer ready to write my E-Pistle
article. I had some books close by for
quick reference. I clicked the
Microsoft Word icon and waited for the program to open. It did.
I was ready to go. And then it happened. Nothing. Nothing
happened. I just sat there staring at
the screen, a blank page. There was
nothing. My fingers didn't move. They
wanted to, but my mind wasn't sending anything their way.
This was
quite unusual. Most days something
comes. Suddenly, like a flash, I know
what I need to say. Today, however,
there was no flash, no sudden inspiration, no "Ah ha! That's it!"
I just sat and stared at a blank page.
I sat looking at the cursor blinking.
Nothing, there was just a blank white page and the blinking cursor which
I was finding increasingly irritating. Then
suddenly my fingers began to move and I really wasn't sure what they were doing.
That's
just the way it goes sometimes. There's
nothing. No flash. No inspiration. You sit and you look and you wait. You just feel empty. But, even then something happens. God happens. The Spirit happens. I was reminded that God is always stirring even
when I don't know it. God is always
working even when I don't feel it. God is
always creating even when I think I have nothing to offer. God is present not only in times of
"inspiration" but in times of "depletion" as well. God is present. God is working. God is creating. God is using us even when
we're not sure how or why.
So
remember the next time you find yourself staring at a blank page and feeling
like the tank is empty. God is near. God
is present. God is working, even when we don't think so. I guess inspiration did come. Imagine that!
In
Christ,
Paul+

Crisis Ministry Father's Day Food Drive! The Crisis Ministry Van will be in the Trinity Circle Sunday, June 21
|

HONORING OUR FATHERS
Father's Day Donations to the Crisis Ministry and
Father's Day Food Drive
- Sunday, June 21
When school lets out, low-income children lose
that daily, nutritious meal and snack provided by federal funded, school lunch
programs. This explains why the summer (with August being the
worst month) puts an enormous strain on the Crisis Ministry's ability to keep
its food pantry shelves adequately filled. So, please make a Father's Day gift
really meaningful to Dad this year with both a tax-deductible donation and a bag of food going to the Crisis Ministry. To give food, please take
a Crisis Ministry grocery bag from
the Narthex and return it with your food donations (a list is stapled to the
bag) next Sunday, Father's Day, June 21st. The Crisis Ministry van will be in the Circle here at Trinity NEXT
SUNDAY!
To make a donation, please go to

Senior Youth to Voyage all the way to Philadelphia on July 26-August 1 There is a place for YOU on this trip!
|
This
summer the Senior High Youth Group will be traveling all the way to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
We will be working with Broad Street Ministry. What, you may ask, is Broad Street Ministry? "In 2005, Broad Street
Ministry (BSM) formed as an alternative church community. BSM seeks to be dynamic in
its expression of worship, embracing of those both on the margins of faith and
those who have enjoyed the embrace of the church. BSM also welcomes into its
body not just those who are on the margins of faith but those who are on the
margins of society. The member of prestigious private clubs worships alongside
the homeless person. The gay and lesbian activist passes the peace with the Pentecostal
lay preacher. The possessor of a PhD. In theology prays alongside the summa cum
laude graduate of the School of Hard Knocks. Churches should regularly feature
this kind of diversity but in our experience they seldom do. We believe that
diversity of belief, skin tone and life circumstance strengthens our witness as
a Christian community-and we work hard to extend it."
At Broad Street our young people will not only be working with the homeless, but they will also be
working with and learning from clergy who will present poverty
and homelessness as institutional social inflictions.
The trip will
be from Sunday July 26-Saturday August 1st. The cost is $400.00. All Trinity Youth from rising 10th graders up are invited to participate. For further
information please contact Michael Lovaglio at michael.lovaglio@ptsem.edu

| Consider a Summer Knitting Project. Or Two.
|
Consider relaxing this summer by knitting a scarf or child's sweater for the St. Nicholas Bazaar, which is just around the corner on December 5th. We have free yarn, needles, and pattern suggestions. We're also into felting wool handbags using our extensive wool collection, crocheting or knitting shawls, and knitting one-day wonders, projects that take just one rainy day to complete, like a newborn's hat with matching booties. Interested? Please email Alison Roth at rotha@trinityprinceton.org

If You Live Alone, We Could Help in a Medical Emergency
|
 |
In the past several years, we have had a few medical emergencies at Trinity Church
involving parishioners who live alone. Because
Trinity does not have a list of emergency contacts
for parishioners, we are mailing a form out shortly (it will be within a parish
mailing that includes a letter from Paul Jeanes) to gather this information. When you return to the office the Emergency Contact Information form, please include two other pieces of information for an emergency:
- Name of a keyholder to your home
- Name of a neighbor who should be contacted
This form is especially
important for parishioners who live by themselves, but we urge everyone to complete it
and send it in.
Thank You!

| A Hip HIP Wine Tasting Party Served by a Familiar Waitstaff |
 |

This year Housing Initiatives of Princeton (HIP)
is celebrating 5 years of operating Prescott
House (at 11 Mercer
Street, owned by Trinity Church) and assisting families
facing homelessness who otherwise would not have a respite or a place to call
home while they get back on their feet.
On June
7th we had a "small" fundraiser (small, in that we had limited space, in Julie Denny Clark's garden, so we didn't mail out invitations;
we just relied on word-of-email!). How do you
like the servers we engaged for this event? A special thank you to Julie Denny Clark and Don Mann who co-hosted the wine tasting
benefit in Julie's lovely garden; to Emilia Tosic-DiSanto for hors d'oeuvres, Ira
Lackey for flower arrangements, James Scott for the photographs and the
Trinity parishioners (including our
clergy) who honored us by attending.
Please save-the-date
for HIP's annual Harvest For Home
event to be held on Sunday afternoon, October
18th, with a location to be announced. We are planning a
casual, fun afternoon to include jazz, New Orleans cuisine, a silent auction featuring
interesting experiences and more!

SUNDAY JUNE 14 - SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 6 are "Summer Choir Sundays" at
Trinity. The services are at 8am and 10am. Anyone is welcome to sing! Meet at 9am
rehearsal in the air-conditioned Ivy Hall! We hope you will join us for good
music and fellowship. Give the Choir a try. Bring family and friends!

We love "parent and child" combos in the choir, like Andrea Hyde and her son Charles Hagaman. Summer is a great time to test the experience of singing with the choir.
