On Location: The Hayden Granary

HaydenThe Hayden Granary serves as a gathering place for the Hayden community, from sharing stories about the founding of the quarter horse breed, to hosting a weekly farmer's market and monthly barn dances.  Hayden, like many rural communities, is facing a challenging time, yet  residents hope to enhance the unique authenticity of Hayden with an emphasis on local food, local business and local vibrancy.

Patrick and Tammie Delaney of Hayden purchased Yampa Valley Feeds at the Hayden grain elevator and opened for business on January 1, 2009.  The Delaney's have kept the integrity of the building and left a lot of room for your imagination. Film and photography projects can take advantage of the authentic 1917 buildings while having access to a local airport that is serviced year round.

For more information on any of the activities going on at the granary or to scout it for your next shoot, check out their website

Photographs of thousands of Colorado's best locations are searchable on the Office of Film, Television and Media website under Production. Censorship in the Game Development Industry

Written by Robert Madsen, igda Perspectives Newsletter

censorshipFew words cause the hair on the back of an American's neck to stand up quite like the word "censorship." I'm pretty sure a small flag starts automatically waving in my mind's eye and some patriotic music begins to play in my head as I imagine myself fighting for my freedom and independence.

Independence - sounds quite familiar as in "independent studio" or "Indie" with a capital "I." Many have started Indie studios to escape the presumed fascism of the big studio or the mega-publisher's marketing department. "I want to make games the way I want to make games!" is a common theme. Therefore, it seems like the Indie spirit is already at odds with the concept of censorship. We became Indie so we wouldn't be limited by anyone else's rules.

Censorship can take many forms in the games industry:

- The continued fight to limit (or eliminate) games that are considered too violent, too sexual, too whatever.

- A game that is banned in a particular locale because it is too controversial.

- A game idea that never reaches fruition because it is not considered marketable.

Certainly, many games have been censored for these reasons and others. So this begs the question: Is censorship ever "justified"? Or is it our god-or-other-significant-deity-given right to make whatever games we want to make?
