Colorado Film School ranked in the top 25 film schools in the world by the Hollywood Reporter.

The Office of Film Television & Media want to congratulate the leadership, staff and students at the Colorado Film School for ranking in the top 25 of film schools in the world

by the Hollywood Reporter. Fredric Lahey, Director of CFS shared some thoughts with us about the award and our favorite subject - film in Colorado.

"Colorado Film School is glad to be included in the Hollywood Reporter's list of the top 25 film schools in the world. Naturally we think we should be a bit farther up on the list, but it is good to see that the selection is truly international in scope, and includes universities that have primarily academic programs as well as production programs like ours.

This year we will be increasing emphasis on structure, character development, conflict, and personal experience in all of our writing and script analysis classes. We want to keep improving our student outcomes each year. It's interesting that most of the schools on the list cost more for one year of their program, than an entire four year BFA degree from our collaborative Community College of Aurora and Regis tracks.

I am hopeful that our new Governor, Film Commissioner, and Colorado Creative Industries division will be able to convince the State Legislature that we need to support filmmaking in the state. It's seems a shame that we keep exporting our tremendously talented graduates, whose education has been underwritten by Colorado taxpayers, to other states with production incentives."

NOTE: In compiling this list, HR consulted industry insiders, execs, filmmakers and film school grads. They asked participants to rate each program based on the following categories: Alumni / Cost / Facilities / Industry Access / Strength of Faculty.

On location: Shannon Red Barn Farm

barnLast year Boulder Magazine's fall fashion photo shoot took place at the Shannon Red Barn Farm located in East Boulder County. "The location couldn't have been more perfect!" states art director, Hilary Stojak.

"We used the exterior of the house, the silo, the barn, the chicken coop, the old wagon in the back, to name just a few choice spots. There were so many options for different shots, chock full of various textures, colors and dimensions." It wasn't just the beauty of the farm that made the location work though; "Carol and Bob Affleck were more than accommodating and helpful with everything from the original booking to greeting us when we arrived in the morning to being able to work with our crazy schedules and multiple models." Ms. Stojak continues on to say "Also worth a mention are the amazing mountain views from Red Barn Farm, they're breathtaking, especially as the sun is setting. I could photograph there every day and still have hundreds of different backdrops still to use."

The Affleck family enjoys sharing the farm and getting to meet all the different talented and creative production people in and out of State. Carol Affleck's excitement is palpable when talking about the different shoots that have occurred there "Working with visual artists has opened my eyes to places on the farm that I love but didn't know others would be as drawn to.

Incentive update

With a new film commissioner and new Governor, the film & media community has rallied yet again to pursue sustainable film incentives for Colorado. A stalwart in the incentive push is Bob King, Assistant Director, DGA Member and longtime Colorado filmmaker who has been tirelessly working towards an incentive for over a decade. We will run updates from Bob and other members of the Media Leaders Roundtable here in our newsletter throughout this next legislative session.

On July 14th, the Political Strategy Committee of The Media Leaders Roundtable met and voted unanimously to endorse a proposed film incentive program, and then voted unanimously to engage the law firm of Brownstein Hyatt Farber & Schreck as the lobbyist for the program, at the same time inviting all interested parties to participate. A fund has been set up to pay for this effort. Anyone interested in contributing to the this fund may send a check made out to "Cinema" to Melissa Kuipers, Attorney at Law, Brownstein Hyatt Farber and Schreck, 410 Seventeenth Street, Suite 2200, Denver, CO 80202-4432.

Flixmaster

videoFlixmaster is a Boulder-based company which has built a technology platform that transforms static, linear videos into user-driven, interactive, immersive experiences. Hyperlinks and user-navigation built the World Wide Web and powered the Information Age. But online videos have remained static, isolated experiences - functionally, dead ends. This technology changes that. By powering branching in video, Flixmaster's platform makes it easy to link videos to other videos, text, images and forms, all within a single player, so viewers can navigate through buttons and links, making video more powerful, more useful and more profitable. http://www.flixmaster.com
