ZuckermanDear Colorado Filmmaking Community

Tomorrow marks the end of my first month as Film Commissioner, and I must say it's been a whirlwind!  I've gotten to meet many prominent filmmakers, lawmakers, judges, artists, and am excited about making Denver my family's home. And most important, we at Creative Industries are moving forward on an innovative plan to create production incentives worthy of the State.  We'll share more information over the next few months as our plan takes shape. Next year, the Legislature willing, we hope to have many productions vying for space within our state and there will be ample opportunity for all manner of local crew.

The other day, I went to Boulder to visit the filmmakers on Mind's Eye, met director Mark Steven Grove and producer Meryem Ersoz and most of the crew.  I must say they are doing amazing things for very little money.

Stay tuned for next month! In the meantime, feel free to drop me an email at donald.zuckerman@state.co.us with your ideas and suggestions.

About Mind's Eye

mind's eye

The first EPIC camera delivered to Colorado, owned by film producer Meryem Ersoz, on the set of Mind's Eye

Mind's Eye is the first major film shot in Colorado using 3D technology with RED Digital Cinema Cameras.

The film stars screen legend Malcolm McDowell and Dean Cain, along with newcomers Izzie Steele and Andrew Trainor.

Mind's Eye is a psychological thriller, a mind-bending film about Mattie Carver, a young high school musician who finds that space and time are collapsing around her, triggered by the resonant sound of her violin.

Mattie is further confounded by the mysterious

appearance of two shadowy men in black, who attempt to instruct her on the shifting nature of her perceptions.

Aided by her high school science teacher, the school psychologist, and her closest friends, Mattie must take a journey through the looking-glass of the mind's eye and unravel the mysteries of perception, memory, and loss. Mattie must find the truth in a constantly morphing reality, before it slips away from her forever.

Victor Trading Company & Manufacturing Works

victor trading

Karen and Sam Morrison have been running their successful shop in Victor, Colorado for the past 21 years, manufacturing and selling quality custom handcrafted historical items. All of the products are hand-made and use no mass production and only utilize antique equipment, tools, and techniques that were available 100 years ago.  No wonder they have been called upon by the likes of Martha Stewart, The Smithsonian, and several feature films ("Little Women" requested their hand-made tree ornaments).  Aside from their famous brooms, the Morrison's also specialize in beeswax candles, custom tin ware, and cookie cutters.  One of the most requested products for filmmakers are the hand crafted period tin cans, circa 1850-1920.  The labels on the cans are color copy reproductions of amazing quality and are perfect for period films.  An order of 3-4 cans can be purchased and ready immediately, while orders of more than four cans require a longer time frame to produce.  Karen Morrison welcomes filmmakers to her shop and website www.VictorTradingCo.com.

"All we can say is that we are thrilled when [filmmakers] find us and we are very willing to work with them for their unique needs. It is always fun to find out what the film is and what they will be doing with our products. Then we have bragging rights, that we were part of it!"

Three million acres of wilderness and national forests, high desert plateaus, Rocky Mountains, and a world-famous hot springs are just the beginning.
