BDW & Marcia

Marcia with the team from Boulder Digital Works

With mixed feelings I am announcing my acceptance of a new adventure in the private sector. I have truly loved my work with the Office of Film, Television and Media, and more recently, Colorado Creative Industries, and the people I have had the privilege of getting to know these past few years. The Colorado Creative Industries is quickly becoming a recognized economic player in Colorado's workforce and lifestyle.

Last July, when the Creative Industries Division was formed, we formed an alliance with key community members, the "Dream Team" led by Norm Shearer of Cactus, and then found a great ally in Boulder Digital Works to realize a dream of branding Colorado as a creative hub with ColoradoCreates.com - a new portal for all of Colorado's brilliant creatives to meet, network, and showcase their work. With the initial launch on March 1 (pictured), this "web channel" will have legs and I believe will set a new level for promotion and collaboration. Please check out the site today and upload your creative work!

Other milestones that I am proud to have been a part of include the 2nd Annual Digital Media Symposium on February 18, 2011 which received the first $25,000 ABC grant from the Boulder Arts Commission. Look for the 3rd annual DiMe in February 2012 for an even bigger convergence of all things digital media in Colorado. The Boulder Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Boulder International Film Festival have been incredible partners!

Last year we founded the Colorado Media Leaders Roundtable for the director of the Office of Economic Development to connect with visionaries in the film, television, game design, and new media industries of Colorado. This group has grown and collaborated and now has a vision "to establish Colorado as the world's digital media center".  Stay tuned for more from this powerful group of leaders.

I have also had the pleasure of teaming with Denver Office of Cultural Affairs and Denver International Airport to put together "Design 2011" which will showcase some of Colorado's finest designers in the Ansbacher hall of DIA this fall.

filmed in coloradoOther highlights include supporting the incredible talent in the state to develop feature films and television series, along with the film and tourism platform, Filmed In Colorado. If you are a filmmaker, please brand your work here to showcase your talent!

There is a bright future ahead for the Creative Industries in Colorado. Thank you for letting me take part in some of your projects and begin to spotlight the incredible talent we have here.  I want to especially thank Elaine Mariner for her leadership and vision and believing in the creative process, and Laura Grey for being such a passionate advocate for Colorado production. I will sincerely miss working with so many of you but will celebrate your victories!

Eye on Palisade, Colorado

PalisadePalisade, Colorado, has a friendly, small-town atmosphere, yet is just minutes away from Grand Junction Regional Airport with weekly flights from Los Angeles for less than $99.00 round trip. Palisade is also just a short drive from the Grand Mesa, a gorgeous backdrop for any production.

Palisade was named for the austere and dramatic palisades of Mancos Shale north of town. The sculptured appearance of these geologic formations was created by the uplifting of the area combined with localized erosion and the downcutting of the Colorado River.

The local climate is often referred to as "The Banana Belt." The mild climate and unique terrain create near-perfect conditions for vineyards and orchards. The climate, a 182-day growing season, and an average 78 percent of sunshine makes Palisade "The Peach Capital of Colorado" and a good bet to plan a production no matter what the season.

Bayley Rogers, Executive Director of the Palisade Chamber of Commerce wants in and out of state filmmakers to know that Palisade is "a melting pot of beautiful backdrops, easy filming and quality low cost amenities." Check out the newly updated website and get connected to everything that Palisade has to offer.
