Ken Seagren is often the first name production companies think of when they look to shoot in Colorado.  His company Lighting Services, Inc. has provided lighting to almost every major production filming in Colorado over the past 37 years.  The sound stages he operates at the Denver Studio Complex have been the home of several television series including "Perry Mason", and "Food Network Challenge".  His feature film credits include " Imagine That", Resurrecting the Champ", "Catch and Release", "Mr. & Mrs. Smith", "Die Hard 2", "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade", "Flash Back", "Things to do in Denver When You're Dead", "Dumb and Dumber", "Dark Territory": Under Siege II", and a host of other productions.

In addition to feature and television work, Ken Seagren's company has also provided lighting, power distribution, and other filmmaking equipment to thousands of international, national and regional commercials in Colorado and in the surrounding states. Ken's work has taken him all over the country working with the likes of Martin Sheen, Bill Murray, Raquel Welch and most recently with Sting and the Royal Philharmonic. www.lsidenver.com

Ken Seagren has also served as a member of the Colorado Film Commission Board of Directors and is also a long-term supporter of the Colorado Film & Video Association as well as being a Chief Lighting Technician with I.A.T.S.E. Local #728. Ken has worked with artma, Concourse d'Elegance and the Children's Hospital by donating his time, equipment and stages. For this award Ken was chosen through a process of Advisory Committee selection and voting among his peers and other leaders in the industry.

"Ken Seagren is one of those incredible individuals whose entrepreneurial spirit and abundant creativity have not only inspired us, he has also provided employment for thousands of Coloradans over the decades.  We are thrilled to honor Ken for his many contributions to the industry," stated Elaine Mariner, Director of the Colorado Creative Industries Division, which includes the Office of Film, Television and Media.

The Hall of Fame Award, originally established by the Colorado Film Commission, recognizes and honors individuals for their extraordinary work in feature films, television, cable, commercials, still photography, interactive media or video game design. These exemplary individuals merit recognition for their long-term service, accomplishments, leadership and vision in these industries. The inaugural inductee of the award was Colorado photographer John Fielder.  Last year's inductees were Academy Award winning producer Donna Dewey and former State Film Commissioner Stephanie Two Eagles.

Digital Media Experts Agree: It's the Story, Stupid

dime

Forget for a moment, if you will, all of the latest 3D excitement and new media technologies. If there's one thing nearly every panelist could agree on at Boulder's 2nd annual Digital Media, or DiMe, Symposium, it's that those who can still tell the best story ultimately will come out on top.

"Brands (another name for money) seek out the good content," said former Saturday Night Live writer Andrew Steele, now creative director for the very edgy "Funny or Die" website and HBO series.

Steele was one of five media experts discussing the topic "Digital Distribution and Monetization." And for every YouTuber, blogger or independent moviemaker searching for answers to that oh-so-elusive monetization question, panelists offered some encouragement.  Read more.
