Statewide Listening Tour Continues
The Creative Industries Listening Tour will continue through January 15 to gather feedback on the division's new strategic plan and to provide training on the division's largest grant program, Colorado Creates.
Artists, creative businesses, art organizations, educators and municipal leaders are encouraged to attend a Listening Tour session to learn more about CCI and provide feedback on CCI's new program priorities. The tour will stop in Montrose, Durango, Alamosa, Glenwood Springs, Burlington, Hayden, Fort Collins, Denver, Colorado Springs, Pueblo and Summit County. The schedule is posted here.
In Durango, we were pleased to have representatives from the City Planning Office and Tourism attend our presentation. As a result, we made a connection with a corporate relocation magazine looking to write an article about the role of the creative sector in corporate relocation decisions. Please keep this in mind as you invite others from your community to join you at an upcoming Listening Tour session.
As part of the Listening Tour, CCI staff will also offer training on how to apply for a Colorado Creates grant. Colorado Creates is the division's largest grant program, providing critical financial support that helps nonprofit cultural organizations and government agencies produce and present arts and cultural activities, bringing jobs to their communities and enhancing the quality of life. In the current year, 141 grants were awarded totaling $1 million, reaching 34 counties across the state.
Guidelines for the 2011-12 Colorado Creates grant program will be available on the CCI website www.coloarts.org soon. The grant deadline is March 10, 2011 for activities taking place between July 1, 2011 and June 30, 2012. Get your 2011 Colorado Grants Guide Subscription at the 2010 Rate Save 25% and purchase your Colorado Grants Guide annual online subscription by December 31 for $150. Prices will change January 2011.This essential and up-to-date fundraising tool for nonprofit and community-based organizations is a comprehensive online database containing over five hundred profiles of local foundations and trusts, corporations, national funders, government agencies and religious organizations that support Colorado nonprofit organizations. Each profile details the funder's purpose and mission, areas of interest, geographic focus, application guidelines, financial information, board of trustees, recent grants, and more. The searchable online database allows grant-seekers to research funders that support a specific area of interest, geographic location or type of grant such as general operating support or capital campaigns. Colorado Credit Reserve
The Colorado Credit Reserve program creates greater access to capital for small businesses in Colorado by using small amounts of public resources to encourage private bank financing. It provides an incentive for banks to offer businesses loans by creating a pooled reserve account to fund losses associated with loans registered in the program. The state Office of Economic Development and International Trade provided $2.5 million in additional funding for the program which is administered by the Colorado Housing and Finance Authority (CHFA). For additional information, please review CHFA's website at www.chfainfo.com.
Counseling Services for Expansion to International Markets
The Colorado International Trade Office (ITO) provides export counseling services to Colorado companies that want to expand their sales into international markets. The ITO works with companies of all sizes and across a variety of industries and services. It also markets Colorado industries with strong export potential to international business and government organizations.

Save the Date - Digital Media "DiMe" Symposium

On February 18, from 1 to 6:30 p.m., the 2nd annual Digital Media Symposium will take place at the St. Julien Hotel in Boulder, Colorado. Held during the Boulder International Film Festival, legions of filmmakers, media-makers, game developers and entertainment lovers will have the chance to participate. Last year DiMe was sold out with 200+ attendees. The 2011 program will be expanded to include two interactive discussions among the visionaries and thought leaders in their fields.
- Digital Distribution: how to distribute and monetize your creation. From films to games to social media, don't miss this discussion that will include the hotly debated policy and competitive issues in the delivery world that shape the transition from the big screen.
- The Future of 3D: introduces the players, showcases the opportunities, and explores what is yet to come. Thought leaders in the 3D arena will compliment live demonstrations of latest developments in 3D technology.
DiMe is a dynamic forum to stimulate, inspire and solidify the creative industries in Colorado, and features panels of visionary leaders in the film, media and gaming industries who discuss the potential for collaboration as well as the evolution and application of new technology, and how to engage and collaborate in this profitable arena.
DiMe is collaboration among the highly acclaimed Boulder International Film Festival, the Governor's Office of Film, Television and Media (Colorado Creative Industries) and the Boulder Convention and Visitors Bureau. The 2010 DiMe was a huge success, featuring a combination of local and national panelists from Disney Studios, Google Sketch-up, The Foundry Group, and others. The tech-savvy, standing room only crowd of over 200 people identified commonalities, shared ideas, and learned from our panel of digital visionaries. Creative Communities
Community Film, Television and Media Small Step Award
To help communities attract film, television and media productions, the Colorado Film, Television and Media office has decided to copy and re-engineer the Colorado Creative Industries' extremely successful Small Step Awards. The program is intended to help diversify and strengthen local economies; showcase the natural beauty of a location or community; and strengthen ties between production professionals and the areas they are working in. Film commissions as well as towns, counties or regions may apply, even if they have never considered actively pursuing productions before. This new grant program has a rolling deadline but we encourage interested communities or groups to apply early as the funds are limited. Click here more information.
