BDAColorado as a Creative Hub

Show Us Your Creative!

We all know that Colorado is

a state filled with creative and innovative minds, and it's time for the rest of the world to see that we're a premier creative hub.

Colorado Creative Industries has teamed up with Boulder Digital Works, a cutting edge graduate program through Colorado University specializing in new media for the digital age, to start a campaign to show Colorado as a truly creative state. We have also called upon our Media Leaders to consult on the project to elevate Colorado's status. We fondly call them "The Dream Team" led by Norm Shearer of Cactus Marketing Communications.

CCI is kicking off the campaign with an online portal that will showcase a wide variety of our best and brightest creative industries. From artists to entrepreneurs, game developers to designers, filmmakers to architects, these entrepreneurs and Colorado businesses will spotlight just how creative Colorado is. Each feature will highlight an individual or company, the work they create, and their unique success stories that will inspire others to come work and play in Colorado.

Send your submissions to us today!  Video, photos, be creative! Email coloradocreativesubmissions@gmail.com and share your story! To learn more about Boulder Digital Works click here. Stay tuned for the launch of the Colorado creative portal in December 2010! To learn more about the project, contact Marcia.Morgan@state.co.us.

Be Creative . . . Buy Local

A group of professionals in the South Metro Denver Chamber of Commerce are encouraging you to "buy local" when it comes to photography, graphic design, branding, public relations, writing, video production, landscaping, multimedia production, website design and other creative services. The group is the South Metro Creatives, an alliance of locally operated creative companies who can help you find and use locally produced creative services. More information.

"Buying locally helps the local economy," says Neil McKenzie, a Centennial-based people and product photographer who came up with the idea for South Metro Creatives. "Buying locally produced creative services means jobs and economic activity for our community. And it gives you an opportunity to work with people who live and work here. That's good for all of us."

Share NEAwith the NEA How "Art Works" in Your Community

NEA Chairman Rocco Landesman has laid out the guiding principle that will inform his work at the agency, which can be summed up in two words: "Art works." He is visiting towns and cities across the country to learn and highlight the ways that art works in neighborhoods and towns across America. Chairman Landesman hasn't yet made a public visit to Colorado, so let's share with him via his blog how Coloradans are ensuring that "art works" in our communities. facepaintGet Schooled in Arts Education Policy and 21st Century Skills!

In celebration of October's National Arts and Humanities Month and to keep the momentum going from the first-ever National Arts in Education Week, Keepartsinschools.org created a new toolkit: Get Schooled in Arts Education Policy and 21st Century Skills. It helps parents, educators, business leaders and community members learn about new legislation and issues important to arts education. It also offers advice on how anyone can be an active advocate for student arts participation and learning.

Research shows that every child benefits from exposure to the arts at school. This year it is crucial to reignite the national dialogue about the value for arts in schools especially as legislators make plans to overhaul federal education policy (ESEA--Elementary and Secondary School Education Act), also known as No Child Left Behind.  Take a few minutes to click through the toolkit. It can help you to keep the momentum going and involve others to support arts learning. www.keepartsinschools.org/Get_Schooled/getschooled.html
