Colorado Creative Industries is thrilled to be hosting our first major event: the Colorado Imagination Conversation on Wednesday, October 20 at Denver Botanic Gardens at 1007 York St. in Denver.
The Imagination Conversationalists include author David Milofsky, DU professor Dr. Art Jones, Lara Merriken of LÄRABAR and David Slayden from Boulder Digital Works. The Imagination Conversation will be hosted and moderated by Brian Vogt, CEO of the Gardens. See the invitation to read their biographies.
The Imagination Conversations, a project of Lincoln Center Institute and a part of the Lincoln Center 50 Years celebration will: · Build national awareness of imagination as a vital tool in work and in life; · Spark dialogue about imagination across the professional spectrum; · Lead to the creation of an action plan to make imagination an integral part of American education.
This event is an excellent opportunity to see "Moore in the Gardens" - a truly significant presentation of works by acclaimed 20th century British sculptor, Henry Moore. The doors open at 5 p.m. and Gardens docents will lead tours of the Henry Moore exhibit at 5:30 p.m. A wine reception follows at 6:30 and the Imagination Conversation begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are only $15 in advance online and $20 at the door. Financial Support and Incentives
Call to Artists: Governor's Arts Award
The Governor's Arts Award is given annually to a Colorado city or town which has effectively utilized the arts and the creative sector to enhance the quality of life and social and economic vitality of their community. In 2010 Creede and Telluride were honored by Governor Ritter and received an original mixed media collage by artist Gayle Gerson of Grand Junction.
The 2011 award will again consist of an original work of art created by a commissioned Colorado artist, to be presented by the Governor at Arts Advocacy next February. A second piece will be commissioned to hang in the State Capitol. A Call to Artists interested in competing for the commission for these two pieces is available on www.callforentry.org.
Colorado Council on Creative Industries Opposes Amendments 60 & 61 and Proposition 101

Film Incentive Program Growing Productions & Jobs
Colorado's film incentive program is finally starting to draw projects to the Centennial state. As of October 1, the incentive fund has $1.5 million available for production companies to tap into. To date production companies have applied for $1.1 million of the available funds. There are currently four productions with signed contracts with the state and five projects that have applications in the approval process. Several additional projects are being discussed with the film office that could result in the fund be totally committed within the next few months. Read the entire article.
Create Denver Revolving Loan Fund
The Create Denver Revolving Loan Fund (CDRLF) offers creative enterprises in the City and County of Denver access to affordable and flexible business capital to increase income and build assets. Creative enterprises are defined as non-profit organizations and for-profit businesses producing or selling fine art, photographic and graphic art, performance art, handcraft and design and media. CDRLF supports Denver's creative economy with small amounts of capital provided at reasonable rates, combined with technical assistance recommendations, resulting in the strengthening and stimulation the creative sector. www.denvergov.org/CreateDenver
Rocky Mountain MicroFinance Institute
The Rocky Mountain MicroFinance Institute (RMMFI) is a non-profit organization that provides learning, lending, and coaching to grow Community Entrepreneurs who build businesses to advance along the pathway to self-sufficiency and self-worth. Broadcast Professionals of Colorado Induct Four into Hall of Fame
The Broadcast Professionals of Colorado inducted four new members of its Hall of Fame at an October 1 luncheon in Denver. The inductees are the late weatherman and newscaster Warren Chandler, longtime KMGH-Channel 7 anchor and reporter Bertha Lynn, radio host Hal Moore and executive and engineer Herb Schubarth. Arts, Education and the Innovation Economy
 The Arts Education National Forum takes place October 21-22 in Denver. It will be an exciting and thought-provoking exploration of the role of the arts and education in strengthening the connection between creative pursuits and building creative capital. Governor's Awards for Excellence in the Arts Accepting Nominations
The Governor's Arts Award recognizes a Colorado town or city for their collective efforts to enhance the vitality of their community through the arts and creativity. A nominee must be a town or city and nominations may be submitted by individuals residing in Colorado, civic organizations, non-profits operating in Colorado, or a business organization operating in the state. A city may nominate itself. In 2010, two cities tied for the award, Creede and Telluride. They were honored by Governor Ritter last February at Arts Advocacy Day. Driving Tourism through the Creative Industries |
 The Colorado Creative Industries hosted a session called "Driving Tourism through the Creative Industries" at the Governor's Conference on Tourism in Snowmass. Over 100 people came to hear from communities across Colorado about how to build tourism and community development through events or programs associated with creative industries. From Boulder to Grand Junction, the destination marketing organizations are developing events by linking them to films, fine art, lavender crops (Palisade), digital media symposium (Boulder), community film night (Glenwood Springs), and movie themed train rides (Durango). The panel, moderated by Marcia Morgan of Colorado Creative Industries, also included a creative marketing inspiration presentation by Norm Shearer of Cactus. Since the launch of the Creative Industries Division in July, Norm has been leading the charge to rebrand Colorado for all of its creative accomplishments. Based on the diversity and success of the creative programs presented at the Governor's conference, Colorado is well on its way. Harvest of Heritage: Celebrating Agricultural Life and Art
 This year's Colorado Masterpieces Project, "Harvest of Heritage: Celebrating Agricultural Life and Art" is currently touring the state. Its first stop was at the Fort Garland Museum in the San Luis Valley. From September 2-25, a visitors log was kept in Soldiers Theater, the original adobe building where the exhibit was on display. Visitors from 21 states and 7 foreign countries signed the log and expressed their appreciation of the museum and of the special exhibit. Participants in the Colorado Preservation, Inc.'s on the Road Tour also had a chance to see the exhibit. Harvest of Heritage is now on display at Burlington's Old Town Museum through October 30. Homestead Harvest Festival is a special celebration planned on Saturday October 16 that will feature demonstrations by traditional artists and craftspeople and many other fun and educational activities.
