Harvest of Heritage Opens Today
at Old Town Museum in Burlington
Colorado's rich agricultural art and traditions come to life in a new touring exhibit
Grand Junction, CO (October 1, 2010) - Harvest of Heritage, Colorado Masterpieces: Celebrating Agricultural Life and Art runs at the Old Town Museum in Burlington October 1-30, 2010. Admission to this special exhibit is free with museum admission. The museum is located at 420 S. 14th Street in Burlington, Colorado.
There will be two special events at Burlington's Old Town Museum during the exhibit's stay. The Chamber of Commerce presents an Oktoberfest Celebration on October 2 from 4 p.m. - 11 p.m. and on October 16, there will be a Homestead Harvest Festival from 10 a.m. - 11 p.m.
Harvest of Heritage is a touring exhibit honoring master traditional artists from throughout Colorado. An interpretive display features photographs and stories which explore the connection between the lives and work of these artists and Colorado's rich agricultural heritage. Many artists featured in the interpretive display are from northeastern Colorado. Original artwork created by some of the master artists will also be on display including wheat plaiting from northeastern Colorado, traditional weaving from the San Luis Valley, rawhide and leather braiding from northwestern Colorado, Mexican fabric art from the Denver metro area and a saddle made as a collaborative effort by the members of the Colorado Saddle Makers Association. Artists chosen for inclusion in this exhibit have met the highest standards of the Colorado Creative Industries' Cultural Heritage Program. Many have been awarded state grants and fellowships to help them preserve and present, pass on and celebrate their traditional art form. Two have received the National Endowment for the Arts' highest honor for our nation's tradition bearers. Many have served as master artists who have passed on skills and knowledge to a next generation of apprentices. Photos and information are also included about local and regional projects that have been supported through Colorado Creative Industries' various grant programs that have made wonderful contributions to the preservation and promotion of Colorado's cultural heritage.
