Lunch on the Lawn
Gift Card Fundraiser
Jog-a-Thon This Wednesday!
Important Dates

Dear (Contact First Name),

One of my favorite Palm Crest traditions is Lunch on the Lawn.  Our first of the year is this Friday during your child's lunch time.  Please see below for details and lunch times.

Gift Card order forms are due tomorrow, Monday, November 14.  If you haven't already ordered, hurry! Don't miss the deadline.  Please see below for ordering information.

The next meeting of the La Canada Unified School District Governing Board is on Tuesday, November 15 at 7pm in the Round Building at the District office, 4490 Cornishon Blvd.  Superintendent Wendy Sinnette has kindly forwarded some of the items on the evening's agenda.  Please see below for details.

There will be an informational  meeting this Wednesday, November 16th at 6:00 p.m. in the MPR to discuss the potential expansion of the PCR parking lot. Hope to see you there.

The LCFEF Jog-a-thon is this Wednesday.  If you haven't already registered or pledge, please go to www.lcfef.org.
It's very quick and easy to do.  You can even have your family and friends pledge on-line too! If you have a very fast runner, I suggest you do a flat pledge. That's what I did!  Volunteers and parents are encouraged to come and cheer.  Please see below for your child's Jog-a-thon time and details.

We have many sweatshirts, lunch boxes, jackets, etc. that children have left on the playground.  Our Lost and Found has reached its capacity.  Please take the time to check the Lost and Found for any "lost" items. Any items remaining after Friday, November 18 will be donated to charity.

There is a Town Hall Forum this Thursday evening, November 17 from 7pm - 9pm at LCFEF City Hall to discuss what every parent should know about teen alcohol and drug use. This event sponsored by the City of La Caada Flintridge Public Safety Commission in partnership with CPC to help better inform parents of the prevalence and dangers of drugs and alcohol in our community. There will be some brief presentations followed by a question and answer period.  City Hall is located at 1327 Foothill Blvd.

La Canada Irrigation will be working on a water line at the Jessen Bridge during Thanksgiving week and the week of November 28.  The Jessen Bridge will be closed down to one lane.  If you use Jessen to get to Palm Crest, please allow extra time.  Or better yet, avoid Jessen all together and come to school via Palm Drive.

Have a great week and enjoy your Thanksgiving vacation!

LUNCH ON THE LAWN
THIS FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 18

Bring a blanket, a chair and your child's favorite lunch and spend some quality time reconnecting with your child.  There are two locations for you to have your lunch depending on your child's grade: First - 3rd grades can set up on the lawn area between the Kindergarten and First grade classrooms and the other lawn areas near those classrooms.  Fourth - Sixth Grades can eat on the lawn areas in front of the Fifth and Sixth Grade classrooms and on the lawn under the trees by the car line.

Parking is always a challenge during Lunch on The Lawn. Please allow enough time to park.  Do not park in a staff parking spot! Kindergarten is dismissed at 11:35, so please anticipate a lot of traffic near Palm Crest.  Please drive slowly and watch for children!!

Please tell your child in advance where you will be sitting so he/she knows where to meet you.  The students visit with their parents only for the "eating" portion of the lunch.  Once students have finished their lunch, they may say their goodbyes and head down to the playground to join their friends for recess playtime  (See Lunch Schedule Below). Please, no parents on the playground!

If you are bringing younger siblings, they must be supervised at all times.  (In years past, we have been known to find toddlers in classrooms or the playground!)  Speaking of supervision,  you must also supervise your Palm Crest student while he/she is eating lunch with you!

Many of us work full-time and can not make it to Lunch on the Lawn. If you cannot come on Friday,  perhaps you can ask a friend who is coming to invite your child to sit with her. Or you can pack your child a special lunch with a little note.  On occasions when I couldn't come, I have promised my child a "special" Saturday lunch.

I suggest that if you can't come, please, please, please (yes, that's three pleases)  let your child know in advance so he/she is not sad or disappointed.  I know it is difficult for working parents to make this event, but it is important for you to tell your child if you won't be there.

Lunch times:
1st - 3rd grades: Eating Time: 11:35am - 12:05pm  Recess playtime begins at 11:55

4th - 6th grades:  Eating time: 12:10 pm - 12:40pm. Recess playtime begins at 12:30pm

I hope to see many of your smiling faces on Friday!
