Greetings!
Good luck to Palm Crest 6th graders who are heading off to Pali Mountain for a week-long field trip. They'll have a great time and learn a lot at the same time! Please remember that there is no school for students this Wednesday.
The La Canada PTA Council in conjunction with the Pasadena League of Women Voters will be hosting a candidates forum for the upcoming La Canada Unified School District School Board election. This event will take place tomorrow, Monday, October 17, 2011 at the La Canada High School Auditorium from 7pm-8:30pm. The entire community is invited to come and hear where each candidate stands on particular issues regarding our schools. The audience is encouraged to submit questions for the candidates during the event. Please contact Lisa Dick at lisa_dick@sbcgobal.net with any questions. LCUSD Superintendent Wendy Sinnette has two messages for school families. One is the agenda for Tuesday's Governing Board meeting and the second is regarding a formation of a survey committee. Please take the time to read both.
On Thursday, October 20th, Palm Crest students, staff, and CEC will participate in the "Great Southern California Shake Out" disaster drill. Please see Mrs. Hurley's message below for details.
Tickets for the family evening Magic Show on Friday, October 28 are selling fast. Make sure to get yours before they sell out. See below for all the details.
Parents new to the Palm Crest school community have asked me how to sign up their kids for local sports. The website www.lacandasports.net lists all the local sports. For example, Registration for Spartan Basketball for the 2011/2012 season is now open. Mrs. Hurley asks that you please mark your calendars for November 16 at 6pm for an informational parent meeting regarding the "potential" parking lot improvement project. More details to follow at a later date.
Please read below for information regarding Founders' Day Nominations, PTA Reflections Contest, LCFEF Movie Night Fundraiser, Disneyland Tickets and the Palm Crest Store.
Have a great week!

Great Southern California Shake Out
|
On Thursday, October 20th, Palm Crest students, staff, and CEC will participate in the "Great Southern California Shake Out" disaster drill. This drill will start at 10:25 a.m. and will last approximately 50 minutes. Students and staff will be taken through the steps of safely exiting the classroom, meeting as a group out on the field, and practicing search and rescue and first aid techniques. We ask that if you should need to retrieve your child(ren) during that time on Thursday that you please proceed to the playground via the 5th grade corridor. The office will be locked. Please be aware that there is a process our staff will be following and we ask that you remember these steps when checking students out from school during a practice or actual disaster: - Please proceed to the playground via the 5th grade corridor. Check in at "STUDENT RELEASE" (blue tables) and be prepared to show photo ID and wait for the staff to document where and with whom each student is released.
- Students will be summoned from there supervision areas on the field and brought to you by "runners."
- Staff will mark your hand with the number of students being released to you for a second check as you exit the campus.
We appreciate all of your support and patience in ensuring the safety of all of our students and staff. If you should have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at 818-952-8360. Karen Hurley, Palm Crest Elementary Principal

JOG-A-THON IS GOING GREEN!
November 16, 2011
The LCFEF Jog-a-Thon takes place at school during P.E. Time. Our goal is for all students to participate and have fun while helping raise funds for our schools.
Students have 20 minutes to jog/walk as many laps as they can. Laps are graduated in size by grade level, and joggers will receive water and popsicles at the event. This year, family and friends can join the action by pledging money for your jogger's all star effort on our new, interactive website. Save time! Save paper! Save the planet! All while helping our schools.
The Foundation's fundraising pays for the programs that make the difference in our schools. - Additional teachers for smaller classes! - Art, music and drama - Technology needs - Guidance and college counseling - And much more! Look for upcoming announcements and instructions on how you and your child can participate, have fun, and make a difference!
