Network with Elder Law and Special Needs Attorneys

The New York Chapter of National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA), will hold its annual meeting on January 24, 2011. This is an excellent opportunity for attorneys and their colleagues to learn more about legislative initiatives affecting elder law clients and to network with elder law and special needs attorneys.

Administration Abruptly Pulls Plug on Medicare End-of-Life Counseling

A Medicare regulation that would have reimbursed doctors for discussing end-of-life planning with patients during their annual checkups has been reversed and withdrawn.  

Tax-Cut Bill Sets Estate Tax Exemption at $5 Million for Two Years

The legislation has restored the estate tax for two years at a 35 percent tax rate, with estates up to $5 million exempt from paying any tax.
