Application Breakfast Seminars

This year, LECO will host a series of Breakfast Seminars during the conference. We'll start with  breakfast each morning at 7 am, and a short presentation will follow, highlighting the use of High Performance Mass Spectrometry in Metabolomics, Petroleum, and Environmental applications. A different application will be presented each morning by a leading field expert, so attend one or all of the seminars!

Monday, May 21
Advances in Analytical Techniques for the Analysis of Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) in Environmental Samples
Presented by
Dr. Eric Reiner of the University of Toronto

Tuesday, May 22
Comparative Analysis of Blood Serum using High Resolution TOFMS with Comprehensive CID Fragmentation
Presented by John Meissen of University of California-Davis

The Application of High Performance GC-TOFMS for the Investigation of Metabolomic Biomarkers

Presented by Dr. Mark Styczynski of Georgia Institute of Technology

Wednesday, May 23
Do I Have the "Right" Tools? Analytical Requirements for Petroleomics by Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry
Presented by Dr. Ryan Rodgers of Florida State University

All seminars will take place at the Vancouver Convention Centre, West Building, Rooms 114-115.

Advanced registration is not required, but it is preferred.

The research group of Professor Uwe Meierhenrich and Dr. Cornelia Meinert used the Pegasus 4D GCxGC-TOFMS from LECO to analyze simulated interstellar ices at the Chemistry Institute (CNRS UMR 7272) of the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis, France. The researchers credit the Pegasus 4D for enabling them to separate and identify numerous amino and diamino acids. These results will provide new routes to interpret prebiotic chemical evolution.

Applications Spotlight

DioxinsHigh Performance Mass Spectrometry of Persistent Organic Pollutants:  What Else Is In My Dioxin Sample?

Dioxin analysis in a regulated fashion requires conformity to the specifications of EPA Method 1613b. This application note demonstrates how comprehensive, high resolution time-of-flight mass spectrometry detects and provides for identification of analytes in samples destined for dioxin analysis.  Click here for more information

Gas Chromatography with High Resolution
Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometry: Meeting the Challenges of EPA 1613b

The "Gold Standard" for dioxin analysis is EPA 1613b Protocol which has rigid requirements for sensitivity, isotopic abundance, and resolving power (R10% = 10,000). This application note shows that the performance of the LECO Pegasus GC-HRT meets or exceeds the requirements for dioxin analysis per the US EPA 1613b Protocol.
