Greetings!
In the middle of winter, it's great to be in Borrego, where we have escaped most of winter's wrath. A few rainy days have given us hope for a good bloom of wildflowers in March, but our days are mostly sunny and clear. While the daylight hours are still short in February, there's no shortage of things to do at the Springs and in Borrego.
welcome to ABDSP

Borrego Springs: Prime Viewing for Big Celestial Show on February 20
Total Lunar Eclipse

On Wednesday evening, February 20, a total eclipse of the Moon will be visible from much of North America. While Borrego Springs doesn't have a monopoly on this great celestial show, our clean air, dark skies and usually cloudless nights make it a great place to plan a eclipse viewing.

During a total lunar eclipse, the Moon's disk can take on dramatic colors, from bright orange to blood red to dark brown and occasionally very dark gray.

The partial phase of the eclipse will begin around 5:43 PM, becoming total at 7:01. The total eclipse will last until 7:51, with the final partial phase lasting until 9:09 PM.

For a truly exotic and exciting eclipse experience, consider joining host Joe Raffetto of California Overland Tours as he provides transportation to a stunning location in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. Dinner will be provided while guests witness the lunar extravaganza. The excursion will run from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Anza-Borrego Foundation Members: $70, nonmembers $75. Call 760 767-1232
or visit California Overland Desert Excursions for more information. Reservations are highly recommended.

For a milder, but very rewarding and informative experience, join local astronomer Mack Wesner at the Springs Astronomy Park just before 7 PM. The eclipse is best viewed with binoculars or the unaided eye, however a telescope will also be available for guests to view the ringed planet Saturn and some of its moons. Bring a folding chair to the observing area.
We're looking forward to seeing you in sunny Borrego!

Sincerely,

Dan Wright

The Springs Dog park is Up and... Running!

Run For It! Karl and Bojo at the Dog Park by Judy Webber
Karl and Bojo Run for it

The Springs at Borrego is very happy to announce the opening of our new dog park!  RVers have been raving over the new area where dogs of all sizes can run, play and get to know some new friends.

Located near the entrance to the resort, the park is over 300 feet long, so even the largest dogs can really rev it up and stretch their legs out.

Since the day it opened in January, it is rare to pass by the park and not see at least one furry friend enjoying some off-leash freedom.

Judy Webber of Langley, B.C., a guest at the Springs, is a big fan of the new park."My dog Karl simply loves to run at the dog park. He's met a lot of new friends there. We even posted a notice at the Resort bulletin board and have scheduled playdates. With this addition, the Springs has about everything we could ask for!"

At each end of the long park are "Mutt Mitt" dispensers and trash cans. Coming soon are some benches, so RVers can rest their legs while doggies stretch theirs.

RoadRunner Club resident Tom Hamilton has offered to donate a bench in memory of his beloved golden retriever, Blazer.
Molly and Rocky at The Dog Park
There is a single force behind the creation of the dog park that we must acknowledge. He is the owner of Wisky and Piper, two very energetic miniature dachshunds. He is also the Springs visionary and entrepreneur (and my father), Bill Wright. He sited the dog park and donated half the land, designed it and financed its construction. So all you canine campers out there, give a bark of appreciation to Papa Bill!
