Greetings!
As the southland recovers from the horrific wildfires of October, a peaceful November is upon us, and we welcome its sunny days and cool, clear nights. The list of things to do around Borrego Springs and the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park grows daily this time of year. The golf courses are open and looking great!
Most all roads are now reopened after the fires, so head on out for some fall-time relaxation and fun! |

Borrego Springs: Haven from the Holocaust of October Wildfires |

|
Here in Borrego Springs, we know we were blessed to be sheltered from the San Diego County wildfires and mostly unaffected by the smoke, as well. At the same time, we are very mindful of those who have suffered, and those who emerged as heroes.
All of us at the Springs at Borrego send a heartfelt prayer for those who were killed or injured by the fires. To those who are recovering from their injuries, we most sincerely wish a speedy recovery. Many who were injured, some critically, were our valiant protectors, the fire fighters who risked their lives to save people, animals and property. Our eternal gratitude goes out to them.
Our hearts also go out to those thousands of people who lost their homes in this gargantuan tragedy.Their recovery has yet to begin.
Heroes were in no short supply right here in Borrego Springs, thanks to our brave residents. Folks from all over the area rose to the occasion.
The Borrego Springs Unified School District faculty, staff and students provided around the clock care for the evacuation center set up at Borrego Springs High School. Other folks from the area donated their time as well. Hundreds of evacuees arrived, having been forced out of their homes, in many cases with nothing more than the clothing they were wearing, and their beloved pets and livestock.
People and businesses donated food, water, diapers, blankets and sunscreen. Many citizens housed evacuated families, in many cases multiple families, right in their own homes.
Local horse ranchers donated their corrals for livestock, supplying food and water without charge.
Local workers from the San Diego County Road Department brought cots for the evacuees to rest. These were especially appreciated, as many of the evacuees were medically fragile.
The Desert Rose, a small restaurant in nearby Ocotillo Wells, provided a dinner for the evacuees.
The Borrego Medical Center provided medical care and free prescriptions for evacuees stranded without their medicine.
California Overland, a local desert tour operator, offered a welcome diversion for the evacuees by donating desert tours aboard their specially equipped military-style tour vehicles.
All of these Borrego-area citizens acted to help without thought of themselves.
Borrego Springs may be a small town, but it is blessed with alot of people with great big hearts. |
