SUPPORT THE BILL TO BAN HORSE-DRAWN CARRIAGES IN NYC
Now it is up to us to move this forward!
NYS Senator Tony Avella and Assemblymember Linda Rosenthal have introduced a bill in the state Senate to ban the horse-drawn carriage industry in NYC. Please read this article by Stephanie Feldstein at Change.org and then sign the petition, which is linked and will generate letters to state legislators.
Anyone can sign the petition. You do not have to live in New York State. People from other states and countries are encouraged to sign.
PLEASE READ THE BILL
S5013 & A7748
In the Senate, the bill is # S5013. In the Assembly, the bill is # A7748. "Prohibits the operation of horse drawn cabs in the city of New York; defines the circumstances under which sale or disposal of a horse shall be deemed humane.'Click here to read the bill.

WHERE IS BEAUTY AND MATTY?
"compromised" carriage horses have not been seen in NYC
The horse pictured here is called Beauty. She is wearing blinders to which tape has been added to prevent her from having any peripheral vision. She was obviously frightened of the heavy traffic. She is no longer working. Does anyone know what happened to her?
Matty is the horse that had a chronic swelling of the tendon sheath in his fetlock. Complaints were made to the ASPCA concerning both horses back as early as September 2010. He is pictured below.
Have these horses been retired to a loving home or sanctuary? Have they been sold to another carriage company? Were they taken to auction? We would like to know.
PROGRESSIVE RADIO TAKES ON HORSE-DRAWN CARRIAGE ISSUE
Interview on "Pure Imagination"
On June 1st, I was interviewed by co-hosts Rachel Trachtenburg & Julia Cummings on their radio show Pure Imagination. If 17 year old Rachel and 15 year old Julia are any indication of future adults, we have nothing to worry about.
Please click here for the interview, which was done just before the June 4th press conference in which the ban horse-drawn carriage bill was introduced. Scroll down a bit and click on "Pure Imagination 01Jun 11" to hear it. (image is of Matty. See rear right hoof)
HORSES SPOOK IN DELAWARE PARADE
when will we ever learn!
Horses are very sensitive prey animals and may spook at the slightest provocation. This is just the latest incident where horses were forced to work a parade and panicked This happened in Delaware. This time it was a pair of 2,000 pound Clydesdales who spooked and charged into the street.
