BLOG & VIDEO ABOUT DRIVER PLAYING TO THE CAMERA
driver overloads his carriage and walks away from his horse
Interesting blog and video. Please note that the driver left his horse unattended while he walked away and turned his back to take photos of his passengers. It is illegal -- but no one is enforcing the law. See 17-330-b. of the Administrative Code. The law allows four adults in the carriage without the addition of a child. See 20-372-5 of the Administrative Code.

What Do You Give A Sweaty Central Park Carriage Horse When the Camera is Watching? -This horse was sweating as it took the hill on West 72nd Street to go by Strawberry Fields and maybe out to Central Park West, dragging a carriage and 5 persons on board. The driver stopped at the top of the hill, and spotting the camera, tried to make it look like he was caring for the horse as well as he took care of the little girl and her family. He gave the sweaty horse a bucket of oats because he wasn't carrying water as there wasn't any water running in the park. This shows how badly the horses are underwatered. He wouldn't have gotten anything without the camera. And what he did get only made his pain worse. The horse couldn't move his body, only his head. The family however, got a personal hand held escort to the sign and a picture, while the horse was told tough oats, I own you and I'm going to abuse you for money

VIDEO -- CARRIAGE GOES THROUGH RED LIGHT
again - the "enforcers" are not enforcing
This is a video taken of a carriage in Central Park. The driver is reading and not paying attention as he goes through the light. The carriage number is 1113. Thanks to whom ever took this video. Click here - Central Park Carriage Horse Driver Reads While Blowing Red Light for the video.

WHERE ARE PATTY AND JETER?
Shamrock's horses -- Falling through the cracks!
crack Shamrock Stables closed on June 7, 2010. Subsidized by the City of New York for many years, they paid only $5,000 a month for property that was worth $60,000 a month. According to the NY Times, "The other six [horses] - Bosco, Molly, Chestnut, Max, Patty and Jeter (as in Derek) - were trucked to Mr. McKeever's farm in Morgantown, Pa., outside of Reading." No one believed that Mr. McKeever had a farm.

But the most interesting thing about this is that Bosco, Molly, Chestnut and Max are still in the Department of Health horse registry -- but Patty and Jeter are not. Where are they? Were they taken to New Holland? The Shamrock truck was at the auction on June 7th so it is highly probable. The problem with the current law is that it does not require sales or transfer records be submitted to the Department of Health if the transaction is made outside the City of NY -- as most of them are.

CARRIAGE DRIVERS ARE THE SAME ALL OVER
Letters Needed - Woman beaten in Rome by driver
rome carriage horses Just the other day, a young woman in Rome approached a carriage driver and asked about the horse's blinders. She may have said something about it not being humane. The driver got down off his carriage and proceeded to beat her. She had to be taken to the hospital with injuries. Several politicians are speaking out against the carriages, called Botticelle, about how the drivers do not obey the laws and that it is a very bad image for Rome. Click here for the article in an Italian newspaper.

Rome is part of our international coaltion Horses Without Carriages International. Let's help them. Please write a letter to Italian officials. Copy and paste these addresses into your e-mail -- TO:

Copy and paste these addresses, which are the media into the CC section:

Put this in the subject line: Non visiter Roma a causa dei botticelle It translates to "I will not visit Rome because of the carriage horses." In your letter, please say that you are aware of the beating of a young woman by a carriage driver; that they are uncivilized and you will not visit Rome until they are banned. Sign with your and city, state and country.

MADELEINE PICKENS' WILD HORSE ECO-SANCTUARY IS A GO
BLM to support it
We recently received a very encouraging e-mail from Save America's Mustangs announcing that the Bureau of Land Management has finally agreed to support Madeleine Pickens' Wild Horse eco-sanctuary. She will start with 1,000 horses with a final goal of 35,000 horses.

I do not know how this affects the wild horse roundups that seem to be continuing in the West. But for these horses, it is a wonderful thing. Read more about it on their web site.
